1. Technology overview
Group14 Technologies is a battery materials company founded in 2015 in Woodinville, Washington, as a spinout from EnerG2, built by engineers who had previously developed engineered-carbon technology together. The company addresses the energy-density and charging-speed limitations of graphite anodes used in conventional lithium-ion batteries.
Group14 manufactures SCC55, a silicon-carbon composite material that functions as a drop-in replacement for graphite anode powder in existing battery production lines. The material is produced at the company’s Woodinville plant and through a licensed joint-venture facility in South Korea, and is supplied to battery cell manufacturers serving electric vehicle, consumer electronics, data-centre backup and electric-aviation applications.
2. Highlighted features & specifications
1. SCC55 composite: silicon-carbon anode material engineered as a drop-in graphite replacement.
2. Fast charging: enables 0-100% charge in around 90 seconds in qualified cell designs.
3. Higher energy density: delivers roughly 43% more energy density than conventional graphite anodes.
4. Extended cycle life: rated for up to 3,000 charge cycles in tested applications.
5. Global manufacturing: production at Woodinville, Washington and a licensed 10 GWh joint-venture plant in South Korea.
6. Multi-sector supply: materials used in electric vehicles, consumer electronics, data-centre backup and aviation batteries.
