1. Technology overview
Greenhope, operated by PT Harapan Interaksi Swadaya, is an Indonesian technology company focused on plastic waste management, with an office in South Jakarta and a factory in Cikupa, Tangerang. It develops biodegradable and bio-based materials from low-carbon, locally sourced inputs as a return-to-earth option for plastic items that are too small or contaminated to be reused or recycled.
Its Ecoplas resin is polymerised from cassava starch sourced from partner farmers and runs on existing plastic processing machinery. Grades include Ecoplas Neos N30 and Kenos XP for blown film used in bags, packaging and landfill cover, and Kenos PP SE for straw extrusion. Oxium is a pellet additive that accelerates plastic degradation through oxidation and biodegradation, and Naturloop is plant-based packaging made from non-food feedstock. Customers are brand owners, retailers and converters that need lower-impact packaging.
2. Highlighted features & specifications
- Ecoplas Neos N30: cassava-based resin for blown film used in bags, packaging and landfill cover.
- Ecoplas Kenos XP: blown film grade for packaging, shopping bags and daily landfill cover.
- Ecoplas Kenos PP SE: straw extrusion grade for biodegradable drinking straws.
- Oxium additive: pellet additive that speeds plastic degradation via oxidation and biodegradation.
- Naturloop packaging: plant-based packaging made from feedstock not intended for food.
- Ecoplas landfill cover: patented, less flammable cover that controls odour and limits rainwater infiltration.
3. Potential application
Vietnamese packaging converters can trial Ecoplas resin on existing blown film lines to make biodegradable shopping bags and polymailers. E-commerce and retail chains can source biodegradable mailers and carrier bags. Landfill operators and urban environment companies can assess Ecoplas cover film as an alternative to daily soil cover.
4. Benefits
Ecoplas runs on existing plastic processing machinery, so converters need no special equipment. According to the company, it biodegrades in landfill and soil in 7 months to 1 year, with 30% lower greenhouse gas emissions and 45% less energy use. Oxium shortens plastic degradation from hundreds of years to two to five years, per the company. Ecoplas landfill cover is reported to cost 50% less than traditional soil cover.
5. Market trends & opportunities
Southeast Asian governments are tightening rules on single-use plastics, and Vietnam will stop producing and importing small non-biodegradable bags from 2026. Retail, e-commerce and consumer brands need drop-in materials that work on existing converting lines, and starch from cassava, a major crop in Indonesia and Vietnam, offers a local bio-based feedstock.
