1. Technology overview
PT Pasifik Satelit Nusantara (PSN) is the first private satellite company in Indonesia and describes itself as the country's largest satellite operator that owns and operates its own satellites. Starting with transponder leasing, it has grown into a vertically integrated satellite telecom provider, from satellite operations to ground network operation and maintenance, serving corporate, SME, government and retail customers at more than 11,000 sites, mainly in remote, frontier and underdeveloped (3T) areas.
Its newest satellite, Nusantara Lima, is a Very High Throughput Satellite with 101 Ka-band spot beams, frequency reuse and xenon-ion electric propulsion, delivering more than 160 Gbps of capacity over Indonesia, the Philippines and Malaysia through seven ground stations. Business services built on the fleet include C-band, extended C-band and Ku-band HTS transponder leasing, VSAT SCPC dedicated links up to 100 Mbps with up to 99% SLA, UBIQU Ku-band IP broadband, cellular backhaul for mobile operators and internet access combining terrestrial and satellite networks.
2. Highlighted features & specifications
- Nusantara Lima VHTS: 101 Ka-band spot beams with more than 160 Gbps total capacity.
- Regional coverage: Indonesia, the Philippines and Malaysia served through seven ground stations.
- Transponder leasing: C-band, extended C-band and Ku-band HTS capacity.
- VSAT SCPC: dedicated C-band point-to-point links up to 100 Mbps.
- UBIQU IP broadband: Ku-band HTS VSAT internet for business sites.
- Cellular backhaul and internet: satellite backbone for mobile operators and hybrid terrestrial-satellite internet.
3. Potential application
- Vietnamese companies with plantations, mines or project sites in Indonesia connecting remote operations to headquarters.
- Banks and retail chains operating in Indonesia or the Philippines using VSAT for branch and ATM connectivity.
- Mobile operators and tower companies backhauling base stations on islands and in remote areas.
4. Benefits
- Connects branches, sites and communities where fibre, 4G or radio networks are not available.
- More than 160 Gbps of VHTS capacity across 101 spot beams supports higher bandwidth per site at lower cost per bit.
- Dedicated VSAT SCPC links with up to 99% SLA and bandwidth up to 100 Mbps suit banking, emergency and ERP traffic.
- One provider for satellite capacity, terminals, ground network operation and 24-hour monitoring.
5. Market trends & opportunities
Archipelagic and mountainous countries in Southeast Asia still have many sites without fibre, and governments are funding connectivity for schools, health centres and public services in remote areas. High-throughput geostationary satellites now compete with LEO constellations on capacity and price, and enterprises in mining, plantations, offshore energy and banking use satellite links as primary or backup connectivity.
6. Other information
First private satellite company in Indonesia, with more than 30 years in satellite communications; President Director Adi Rahman Adiwoso has led PSN since 1991. Operates Nusantara Satu (Indonesia's first HTS), Nusantara Tiga/SATRIA-1 (VHTS) and Nusantara Lima, which entered commercial service in May 2026. Holds ISO 9001, ISO/IEC 27001 and ISO 45001.
