1. Technology overview
Fleetbase was founded in 2018 in Singapore and open-sourced its platform in 2022 under the AGPL-3.0 licence. It aims to give couriers, delivery operators and enterprises the logistics software of large carriers without vendor lock-in, per-delivery fees or black-box code, and is run by two founders on a bootstrapped basis with full-time engineering, support and DevOps teams.
The modular platform centres on Fleet-Ops for dispatch, live GPS tracking, route optimization, telematics, maintenance and fuel tracking, with configurable order types and activity flows. Storefront adds headless e-commerce and multi-vendor marketplaces that auto-dispatch orders, Ledger provides invoicing, wallets and double-entry accounting, and a warehouse module is in preparation. The Navigator driver app, customer portal, extensions marketplace, REST API, JavaScript SDK and WebSocket events allow businesses to self-host or use the managed cloud.
2. Highlighted features & specifications
- Fleet-Ops: dispatch, live GPS tracking, route optimization, telematics, maintenance and fuel tracking.
- Dynamic order configuration: custom order types, fields, activity flows and automation triggers without code.
- Storefront: headless e-commerce and multi-vendor marketplaces with auto-dispatch on checkout and payment gateways.
- Ledger: auto-invoicing, driver and vendor wallets, P&L dashboards and double-entry accounting.
- Navigator and customer portal: driver app with proof of delivery and customer tracking pages.
- Developer platform: REST API, JavaScript SDK, WebSocket events, CLI and an extensions registry.
3. Potential application
- A Vietnamese courier startup can self-host Fleetbase to run dispatch, driver apps and tracking under its own brand.
- A software house can build a white-label delivery app for local retail chains on top of the platform.
- A regional food marketplace can link storefront orders directly to rider dispatch and payouts.
4. Benefits
- Self-hosting under AGPL keeps operational data on infrastructure the operator controls, with no vendor lock-in.
- Cloud pricing of US$29 a month plus US$5 per driver or vehicle, with free orders, avoids per-delivery fees.
- Fleet, e-commerce and accounting modules on one platform reduce the need to stitch several tools together.
- An open codebase with more than 4,000 GitHub stars lets developers audit, fork and extend it with extensions.
5. Market trends & opportunities
Delivery companies and software integrators in Southeast Asia increasingly want logistics platforms they can host, customise and white-label instead of paying per-delivery SaaS fees. Data residency concerns and the need to localise workflows for regional couriers, marketplaces and e-commerce sellers, including in Vietnam, make self-hostable open-source logistics stacks attractive.
6. Other information
Fleetbase was founded in 2018 in Singapore, open-sourced in 2022 and remains bootstrapped and founder-led. The core is AGPL-3.0 with an optional commercial licence for closed-source custom code. It offers a partner programme and paid self-hosted implementation, and is open to investment and strategic partnerships.
