1. Technology overview
Optera is a US carbon management software company whose roots go back to the consultancy Point380, founded in 2006; the software business launched in 2018. In July 2026 it was acquired by Green Project Technologies, a New York-based climate management platform owned by ACT Group, and continues under the Optera brand. It serves large enterprises that need audit-ready emissions inventories and supplier data for disclosure laws such as California SB 253 and the EU CSRD.
The platform has four parts. Operator builds a Scope 1, 2 and 3 inventory with AI-assisted data mapping, API sync, hotspot analysis and quality checks. Supply Chain Manager pulls data for more than 10,000 suppliers, allocates supplier emissions cradle to gate and segments suppliers into engagement plans. Outreach gives suppliers guided workflows and a free first inventory, and Response Hub, launched in 2026, uses AI to answer information requests. Customers include Cisco, HPE, Intel, NVIDIA, Target and Box.
2. Highlighted features & specifications
- Operator inventory: Scope 1, 2 and 3 accounting with drill-down by facility, business unit or region.
- AI data mapping: uploads consumption data and maps it into the platform automatically.
- Supply Chain Manager: data for 10,000+ suppliers with cradle-to-gate allocation to purchased goods.
- Supplier Outreach: guided reporting workflows and a free first-time inventory for suppliers.
- Response Hub: AI engine that drafts answers to customer and regulatory information requests.
- Assurance readiness: source tracing, data quality flags and regulatory boundary views such as CSRD.
3. Potential application
A Vietnamese furniture, apparel or electronics supplier to US retailers can use Optera Outreach to build a first inventory and share it with several buyers. A multinational with factories in Vietnam can consolidate site-level Scope 1 and 2 data into a group inventory. A US-listed company can answer CDP and customer questionnaires with Response Hub.
4. Benefits
Suppliers submit data once a year even when several customers request it, and receive a free first inventory, which raises participation in Scope 3 programmes. Calculations trace back to emission factors and sources with automated quality checks, supporting third-party assurance. Each customer gets access to sustainability experts, and the software is designed to support CSRD and CBAM compliance.
5. Market trends & opportunities
California SB 253 and SB 261, CSRD and retail industry programmes are pushing large US brands to collect product and supplier emissions data. Vietnamese suppliers to US retailers and technology companies are increasingly asked to report emissions through their customers' supplier platforms.
6. Other information
Began as the consultancy Point380 in 2006; software launched in 2018. Acquired by Green Project Technologies, Inc. (New York, an ACT Group company) in July 2026. In December 2025 Optera and the Retail Industry Leaders Association launched DPED v2 for product emissions transparency. Customer stories include Box's first GHG assurance.
