1. Technology overview
NTT e-Drone Technology is an NTT group drone company headquartered in Asaka, Saitama Prefecture, Japan. It applies NTT communications and AI technology to drones for agriculture, infrastructure inspection, surveying, wildlife damage control and disaster response, with domestic development and production.
The AC102 is its lightweight, compact agricultural spraying drone designed for small Japanese fields. It weighs 6.1 kg without tank and battery, carries up to 8.0 kg, hovers for 30 minutes and sprays up to 2.5 ha per battery, with network RTK support for precise autonomous flight. Since January 2025 the AC102 integrates with BASF's xarvio FIELD MANAGER so soil-fertility maps drive automatic variable-rate fertilizer application. Options include a granule spreader, a higher-flow kit and a fixed-fee maintenance plan, and the company also runs drone schools and outsourced spraying services.
2. Highlighted features & specifications
- Compact airframe: 6.1 kg body, 21.2 kg maximum take-off weight and 8.0 kg payload.
- Spraying capacity: up to 2.5 ha per battery with 0.7–1.45 L/min standard flow.
- High-flow option: a kit launched in January 2026 raises discharge to 1.6–3.0 L/min.
- Variable-rate application: xarvio FIELD MANAGER maps drive automatic fertilizer rates.
- Granule spreading: optional spreader device for fertilizer and seed.
- Support services: fixed-fee maintenance, drone school courses and outsourced spraying.
3. Potential application
- Rice cooperatives in the Red River Delta with small, scattered plots using a light drone for spraying and top-dressing.
- Fertilizer and agrochemical companies piloting map-based variable-rate fertilization programmes with growers.
- Agricultural extension centres training pilots on a maintainable drone platform with long parts support.
4. Benefits
- Light airframe that one person can handle in small, fragmented paddy fields.
- Variable-rate fertilization from xarvio soil maps helps even out crop growth and fertilizer use.
- Seven years of guaranteed inspection, repair and parts supply from purchase.
- Domestic design gives flexible response to regulations and qualifies for subsidy bonus points in Japan.
5. Market trends & opportunities
Small-plot rice farming in Japan and much of Asia is shifting to drones as farmers age, and the next step is data-driven application: variable-rate fertilizer and spraying linked to field maps. Governments are also encouraging domestically designed or trusted-supplier drones, which favours makers that combine hardware, software integration and long-term maintenance.
6. Other information
Established in 2019 as an NTT group company and headquartered in Asaka, Saitama; president Masahiro Takizawa. Other products include the BB102 laser wildlife-deterrent drone and inspection services with Skydio X10 and ELIOS 3. In 2026 it launched the NTT eDrone Academy drone school and opened pre-orders for the S13 granule spreader.
