1. Technology overview
Saleor is an open-source, headless commerce platform developed by Saleor Commerce sp. z o.o., based in Wroclaw, Poland. It serves brands and retailers with complex catalogues, many stores or several markets that need commerce infrastructure they can shape to their own processes rather than adapt to a fixed SaaS template.
The platform is GraphQL-first, with full storefront and admin APIs, more than 160 webhooks including synchronous webhooks and subscriptions, and dashboard UI extensions at over 45 mount points. The admin dashboard includes product information management, order management and translations, and dynamic models for product types, attributes and metadata. A configurator CLI versions commerce configuration as code, and OpenTelemetry observability is in beta. Saleor can be self-hosted or run on Saleor Cloud. Customers include Lush and Breitling.
2. Highlighted features & specifications
- GraphQL APIs: Expose full storefront and admin functions through GraphQL.
- Webhooks and subscriptions: Provide more than 160 webhooks, including synchronous ones.
- Admin dashboard: Includes PIM, order management and translations with UI extensions.
- Dynamic product models: Define product types, attributes and metadata flexibly.
- Omnichannel orders: Process orders across channels, stores and markets.
- Configurator CLI: Stores and versions commerce configuration as code.
3. Potential application
A cosmetics or fashion chain with click-and-collect can unify store pickup and online orders on one API backend, as Lush did. A system integrator can use Saleor as the commerce core for enterprise projects in Vietnam. A brand selling in several countries can manage translations, channels and prices per market.
4. Benefits
Retailers can model products, channels and order flows to match their business without forking the core, because extensions use APIs, webhooks and UI mount points. Open-source code avoids vendor lock-in and allows self-hosting. Saleor Cloud offers a fixed one-month go-live window with engineering fees rebated as credits after launch. The platform states SOC 2, GDPR and PCI-DSS compliance.
5. Market trends & opportunities
Large retailers and brands are replacing monolithic e-commerce suites with composable, API-first stacks that connect storefronts, stores and marketplaces. AI coding assistants and agentic commerce protocols make API-native platforms easier to extend. In Vietnam and Southeast Asia, retail chains and system integrators building custom omnichannel systems are looking for open, self-hostable commerce cores.
