1. Technology overview
Senken GmbH is a carbon credit marketplace and procurement company founded in 2022 in Berlin, Germany, by CEO Adrian Wons and COO Djamel Mekibes. It responds to evidence that most registry credits are low quality, which exposes buyers to greenwashing risk, by curating a narrow set of high-integrity projects for enterprises, mainly in Europe.
Its Sustainability Integrity Index scores projects on more than 600 data points covering carbon impact, permanence, additionality, social and environmental effects, reporting and compliance, and draws on external ratings such as BeZero and Sylvera; Senken says it has screened 6,200 projects and rejected 95%. Buyers receive a project integrity report, a single contract for a blended portfolio of avoidance, nature-based removals (reforestation, soil carbon) and permanent removals (biochar, direct air capture), multi-year offtakes, a live monitoring dashboard with delivery alerts and CSRD-ready documentation. The 2025 acquisition of Ivy adds forward financing for projects before certification.
2. Highlighted features & specifications
- Sustainability Integrity Index: scores projects on more than 600 data points.
- Project integrity reports: additionality, permanence and delivery risk scores plus external ratings.
- Blended portfolios: avoidance, nature-based removals and permanent removals under one contract.
- Offtake agreements: multi-year delivery schedules and forward financing via the Ivy acquisition.
- Monitoring dashboard: live portfolio view, quarterly delivery reports and off-track alerts.
- Compliance kit: CSRD ESRS E1-7 information, registry retirement records and SBTi planning support.
3. Potential application
A Vietnamese exporter with European customers can build a CSRD-ready credit portfolio for residual emissions. A Vietnamese biochar or reforestation developer can seek European offtake and forward financing by passing Senken's integrity screening. A foreign-invested company in Vietnam can sign a multi-year removal offtake with delivery monitoring.
4. Benefits
Buyers get a pre-screened portfolio drawn from the top 5% of projects, reducing greenwashing exposure. Senken states blended portfolios start at about EUR 25 per tonne and that prices are 10-30% below market rates. One contract covers multiple projects and years, with quarterly delivery reports and alerts if a project goes off track, and audit documentation supports CSRD ESRS E1-7 disclosure.
5. Market trends & opportunities
Rules on green claims and CSRD reporting raise the risk of buying low-quality credits, pushing companies toward curated, rated portfolios and long-term removal offtakes. Asian suppliers such as biochar and agroforestry projects in India and Southeast Asia increasingly sell into European demand, and Vietnamese exporters to the EU face similar disclosure expectations from their buyers.
