1. Technology overview
VisIC Technologies, headquartered in Ness Ziona, Israel, was founded in 2010 by gallium nitride (GaN) experts to develop and sell GaN-based power conversion products. It focuses on high-voltage GaN for electric vehicle powertrains, where silicon carbide has been the main choice, and also runs a device development and qualification hub in Vienna, Austria.
Its D3GaN (depletion-mode direct drive) platform avoids the gate limits of enhancement-mode GaN and the constraints of cascode designs, reaching 750 V and 200 A ratings. The Gen 2 650 V die reaches 4 mOhm and 230 A, supplied as bare dice for sintering onto AMB/DBC substrates, in top-side-cooled packages and as half-bridge power modules. Customers are automotive tier-1s and OEMs building traction inverters and on-board chargers, plus industrial and data centre power makers.
2. Highlighted features & specifications
- D3GaN architecture: depletion-mode direct-drive GaN rated up to 750 V and 200 A.
- Gen 2 die: 650 V, 4 mOhm, 230 A, about 33% smaller than Gen 1+.
- Flexible supply: bare dice, top-side-cooled TC packages and half-bridge modules.
- Traction inverters: modules for 50 kW to above 150 kW inverter systems.
- On-board chargers: high-density GaN switching with simplified cooling.
- Quality system: ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001 and ISO/IEC 27001 certified.
3. Potential application
A Vietnamese EV maker can evaluate D3GaN modules in a traction inverter to extend range. An electric bus or motorbike powertrain supplier can use GaN dice in on-board chargers. An industrial drive or data centre power maker can test D3GaN for high-current converters.
4. Benefits
The company states up to 50% lower losses in traction inverters and on-board chargers with half the weight and three times the power density. Validation data cited by the company reaches 130 kW at 99.7% efficiency for EV traction inverters. Gen 2 dice are about 50% smaller than Gen 1, lowering cost per amp. The platform covers both 400 V and 800 V EV architectures.
5. Market trends & opportunities
EV makers are looking for lower-cost alternatives to silicon carbide in traction inverters as 800 V platforms spread, and Asian automakers such as Hyundai and Kia are backing GaN. Vietnam's EV industry, from cars to electric motorbikes and buses, is building local powertrain capability that can benefit from efficient wide-bandgap switches.
6. Other information
Founded in 2010, headquartered in Ness Ziona, Israel, with VisIC Technologies Austria in Vienna. Raised a 26 million USD Round B in December 2025 with Hyundai Motor Company and Kia (HKMC) as strategic investor. Partners include ZF for GaN EV inverters, hofer powertrain and AVL. Listed on the DigiKey Marketplace in 2025.
