1. Technology overview
CHASM Advanced Materials was established in 2015 by carbon nanotube industry veterans Dave Arthur and Bob Praino, and is headquartered in Canton, Massachusetts with an R&D centre in Norman, Oklahoma. It addresses the cost and usability barriers that have limited industrial use of carbon nanotubes (CNTs).
CHASM's patented, low-capex CNT manufacturing platform produces NTeC carbon nanotubes and nanotube hybrids. NTeC-E conductive additives improve power density, cycle life and charge capacity in lithium-ion cathodes, silicon anodes and other chemistries, while NTeC-C additives raise cement strength and allow lower-carbon concrete. The company also offers AgeNT transparent conductive films for heaters and antennas, and licenses its CNT production technology to partners such as Ingevity.
2. Highlighted features & specifications
- NTeC-E: high-purity CNT conductive additives for cathodes, high-nickel cathodes, silicon anodes and solid-state cells.
- NTeC-C: CNT cement additive for stronger, lower-carbon concrete using local materials.
- Nanotube hybrids: CNT hybrid materials supplied as dispersions, inks and films.
- AgeNT films: transparent conductive films for ADAS sensor heaters and transparent antennas.
- Scalable reactors: 50 MTA pilot reactor commissioned in 2022 and a 1,500 MTA reactor planned in Norman, Oklahoma.
- Technology licensing: production technology licensed to partners for regional manufacturing.
3. Potential application
Cement and ready-mix concrete producers in Vietnam can trial NTeC-C to raise strength and reduce clinker content for green building projects. Battery cell and pack makers can test NTeC-E in cathode and silicon anode formulations. Chemical groups can explore licensing CHASM's CNT production technology for regional supply.
4. Benefits
NTeC-E was validated by Ingevity's battery labs, battery OEMs and third-party testers as more conductive than other commercial CNT products, with better capacity retention at high C-rates and over long cycle life. NTeC-C enables low-carbon concrete without imported supplementary cementitious materials and is designed to improve crack resistance. The licensing model lets partners build local CNT supply close to gigafactories.
5. Market trends & opportunities
Carbon nanotubes are becoming a standard conductive additive in lithium-ion batteries, and manufacturers want regional supply chains. Cement makers are also under pressure to cut emissions, as cement accounts for about 8% of global CO2. Southeast Asia's growing battery assembly and construction sectors are potential markets for both applications.
6. Other information
Established 2015; headquartered in Canton, Massachusetts, USA with R&D in Norman, Oklahoma. ISO 9001 certified. License agreement with Ingevity (NYSE) for NTeC-E production in North America and Europe in 2025, following a 2024 joint development agreement. Concrete demonstrations with Terracon and Saudi Readymix (December 2025).
