1. Technology overview

Naieel Technology was established on 9 September 2015 by researchers from the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute to commercialise boron nitride nanotubes (BNNT). It is based in Daejeon, Korea, with a US subsidiary in Columbus, Ohio. BNNT has strength and thermal conductivity similar to carbon nanotubes but is electrically insulating, stable at higher temperatures, biocompatible and a strong neutron absorber, opening uses that CNT cannot serve.

Naieel produces white BNNT powder through a proprietary thermal reaction process and sells it under the NanoBorNT trademark in 80 wt% and 90 wt% purity grades, with tubes averaging 30-50 nm in diameter. It also supplies high-concentration BNNT-dispersed polymer resins and solvents. Target applications include thermal interface materials for 5G/6G, EVs and LEDs, battery separators and electrolytes, catalyst supports, aerospace and nuclear composites, and boron neutron capture therapy.

2. Highlighted features & specifications

  • NanoBorNT-80: as-produced BNNT powder with 80 wt% purity for cost-sensitive uses.
  • NanoBorNT-90: purified BNNT powder with 90 wt% purity.
  • BNNT resins: high-concentration BNNT dispersed in various polymer resins for easy mixing.
  • BNNT solvents: stable BNNT dispersions in a range of solvents.
  • Custom grades: purer, thinner or longer BNNT made on request.
  • Online ordering: small quantities purchasable online, with larger orders by quotation.

3. Potential application

Thermal interface material and electronics component makers in Vietnam can test BNNT fillers for insulating heat spreaders. Battery research groups and cell makers can evaluate BNNT-coated separators or electrolyte additives. Universities and materials labs can source small quantities for composite and medical research.

4. Benefits

Adding BNNT to conventional thermal materials can raise thermal conductivity up to three times while keeping them electrically insulating, according to the company. BNNT stays stable up to 800°C in air versus 300-400°C for CNT and absorbs thermal neutrons far more strongly, suiting aerospace and nuclear shielding. Ready-to-mix BNNT resins and dispersions let manufacturers test the material without developing their own dispersion process.
