1. Technology overview
Otanics Technology is a Vietnamese aquaculture technology company registered in Ca Mau, with an office in Ho Chi Minh City. It was co-founded by Dr Van Vu, Tuan Nguyen and Le Van Quang, CEO of Minh Phu Seafood, and runs an experimental high-tech farm to test prototypes. It addresses labour-intensive monitoring, feed waste and disease risk in intensive shrimp farms and hatcheries.
The TOMOTA platform links smart feeders and the NEO IoT controller, which operate aerators, paddlewheels and feeders remotely, with a farm and hatchery management app that supports BAP and ASC record keeping. Smartphone-based devices include S3+ for shrimp growth and health, S3T for postlarvae quality, S3N for counting nauplii and Artemia, and A3 for four water quality parameters. At Minh Phu's Loc An farm it controls about 5,000 devices across 840 ponds.
2. Highlighted features & specifications
- Smart Feeder: real-time feed monitoring and automated feeding schedules that reduce blockages and waste.
- NEO IoT controller: remote control and real-time data for aerators, paddlewheels and feeders.
- Farm and hatchery app: data analysis and records for BAP and ASC certification.
- TOMOTA S3+: smartphone tool for shrimp size, growth, health and stocking density.
- S3T and S3N: postlarvae quality assessment and counting of nauplii and Artemia.
- TOMOTA A3: measures four pond water quality parameters.
3. Potential application
- Large shrimp farms in Ca Mau, Bac Lieu or Soc Trang centralising control of aerators and feeders.
- Shrimp hatcheries assessing postlarvae quality and counting nauplii before sale.
- Seafood exporters building BAP and ASC records across contract farms.
4. Benefits
- Cuts night-shift labour: Minh Phu Loc An went from more than 100 night staff to two people in a control room.
- Reduces feed use; a 2025 study reports about 200 tonnes of feed saved per year at Loc An.
- Lowers electrical incidents by more than 90% through monitoring and preventive maintenance alerts.
- Simplifies BAP and ASC certification through digital farm records.
5. Market trends & opportunities
Vietnam's shrimp sector is shifting to intensive and super-intensive systems while labour becomes scarcer and buyers ask for traceability and certification. Large integrated producers in the Mekong Delta are centralising farm control, and hatcheries need objective tools to assess postlarvae quality.
