1. Technology overview
Bear Robotics, Inc. was founded in May 2017 and engineers its robots in Silicon Valley, with subsidiaries in Korea (Seoul) and Japan. It builds autonomous mobile robots that take repetitive walking and carrying work off restaurant staff, and later extended the same navigation platform to hotels, senior living, hospitals, warehouses and factories. LG Electronics invested 60 million USD in 2024 and entered a strategic alliance with the company in 2025.
Servi Plus is a high-capacity serving robot that carries over 16 entrees or up to 88 lb (40 kg) on 2 to 4 customisable trays, with active suspension for soups and drinks, a 10.4-inch screen with sound, accent lighting and LiDAR plus 3D-camera navigation through 65 cm aisles. Servi Q, launched in 2026, is an ultra-slim model for tight dining rooms. A central control system runs multi-robot fleets from one dashboard without deadlocks, covering kitchen-to-table delivery, drink running and table bussing.
2. Highlighted features & specifications
- High payload: over 16 entrees or up to 88 lb (40 kg), 22 lb (10 kg) per tray, on 2 to 4 trays or bus tubs.
- Sensor-fusion navigation: LiDAR and 3D cameras detect obstacles in all directions and reroute in real time.
- Active suspension: crosses ramps and thresholds up to half an inch while carrying liquids.
- Multi-robot mode: central dashboard orchestrates fleets, including mixed product lines.
- Brand display: 10.4-inch screen, sound system and tray lighting for promotions and presentation.
- Servi Q: ultra-slim 2026 model for restaurants with narrow aisles.
3. Potential application
- Korean BBQ and hotpot chains in Vietnam using robot fleets to run trays of meat and collect empty plates.
- Large banquet and wedding restaurants delivering many dishes per trip during peak service.
- Resort restaurants and airport lounges where long walking distances strain service staff.
4. Benefits
- Staff focus on guests: robots take over food running, drink running and bussing so servers stay on the floor.
- Less burnout and turnover: repetitive walking and heavy lifting are offloaded; the site reports over 1.6 billion steps saved as of Q2 2026.
- Higher capacity: one Servi Plus carries over 16 entrees per trip and fleets scale with multi-robot mode.
- Stable delivery: active suspension and speed presets help deliver soups and drinks without spills.
5. Market trends & opportunities
Labour shortages and rising wages in Korea, Japan and other Asian markets are driving restaurants to deploy serving robots at fleet scale, as in Korean BBQ restaurants running dozens of units. Robot makers are also partnering with large electronics groups to reach more markets and to reuse the same navigation platform across hospitality and logistics.
6. Other information
Founded in May 2017; Bear Robotics Korea is based in Seoul and Bear Robotics Japan in Japan. Funding history on the site: 2.8 million USD seed (2018), 32 million USD Series A with SoftBank Robotics (2020), 81 million USD Series B led by IMM (2022) and 60 million USD Series C from LG Electronics (2024), followed by a strategic alliance with LG in 2025. Acquired Kinisi Robotics in 2026.
