1. Technology overview

Estuary was founded in 2019 by Dave Yaffe and Johnny Graettinger, building on Gazette, a streaming framework that handled billions of daily ad-tech events at LiveRamp. It has offices in New York City and Columbus, Ohio, and targets the gap between batch ETL and real-time data needs for analytics, applications and AI agents.

The Estuary platform combines log-based change data capture, streaming and batch ETL in one pipeline, with 200+ connectors. Data is captured into collections stored in the customer's own cloud bucket, transformed in flight with SQL, Python or TypeScript, and materialized to warehouses, lakes and operational systems. A rewritten runtime offers up to 8x faster backfills and up to 200 GB per hour per worker. Named users include Glossier, Together AI and Resend.

2. Highlighted features & specifications

  • Log-based CDC: Captures database changes from the replication log with low latency.
  • Unified streaming and batch: Real-time and scheduled pipelines share the same platform.
  • In-flight transformations: SQL, Python and TypeScript transformations applied while data moves.
  • Customer-owned storage: Collections are stored in the customer's own cloud bucket.
  • Flexible deployment: Public, private or BYOC deployment on AWS, GCP or Azure.
  • Agent skills: AI-assisted pipeline building and data delivery for AI agents.

3. Potential application

A Vietnamese bank or e-wallet can stream core database changes to a lakehouse for near real-time fraud monitoring. A retailer can keep inventory in its warehouse and search systems in sync across channels. A SaaS company can feed fresh product data to AI agents and analytics at the same time.

4. Benefits

One platform replaces separate tools for CDC, streaming and batch loads, reducing pipeline sprawl. Pricing is transparent: a free Developer tier (10 GB per month, two connectors) and pay-as-you-go at $0.50 per GB plus $100 per connector per month. Enterprises can choose private or bring-your-own-cloud deployments so data stays in their network, and an APAC public region is available.

6. Other information

Founded in 2019; offices in New York City and Columbus, Ohio, with remote staff. FirstMark invested $7M in 2021 and M13 led a $17M Series A in 2025. The SaaS product launched in 2023. Enterprise plans include a SOC 2 report and HIPAA BAA.
