1. Technology overview
Artie is a San Francisco company, part of Y Combinator's 2023 batch, co-founded by Jacqueline Cheong and CTO Robin. It builds a fully managed real-time replication platform for teams that would otherwise assemble Kafka and Debezium or rely on AWS DMS to move production data into analytics systems.
Artie reads changes from the replication log of sources such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB and DynamoDB and streams them to Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery and other destinations with sub-minute latency and exactly-once delivery. It handles schema evolution automatically, supports SCD Type 1 and 2 history, column-level exclusion, encryption and hashing of PII, and fan-in from many single-tenant databases. It can run in the customer's own cloud account. Named customers include ClickUp, Substack, Alloy and YNAB.
2. Highlighted features & specifications
- Log-based replication: Reads the source replication log to capture every row-level change.
- Exactly-once delivery: Streams changes to warehouses with sub-minute latency and no duplicates.
- Schema evolution: New columns and type changes propagate automatically to the destination.
- PII controls: Column inclusion, exclusion, encryption and hashing for sensitive data.
- History tables: SCD Type 1 and Type 2 support for change history.
- BYOC deployment: Can run inside the customer's own cloud account or on-premise.
3. Potential application
A Vietnamese SaaS provider can replicate its multi-tenant PostgreSQL databases into Snowflake for product analytics. A lending fintech can stream loan and repayment tables to BigQuery with hashed PII for risk reporting. A marketplace can keep a Databricks lakehouse continuously in sync with MongoDB.
4. Benefits
Engineering teams avoid building and maintaining their own Kafka-based CDC stack, with setup the vendor says takes under an hour. Reported results include 98%+ latency reduction at Substack and 90% lower recovery time at ClickUp. Artie states that it never stores customer data, encrypts data end to end and announced HIPAA compliance in December 2024.
5. Market trends & opportunities
Analytics and AI workloads increasingly depend on fresh copies of production databases, and teams are moving away from nightly batch syncs and self-managed Kafka pipelines. Fast-growing SaaS and fintech companies in Southeast Asia face the same need for reliable, low-latency replication into cloud warehouses.
6. Other information
Based at 180 Sansome St, San Francisco; MVP built in 2022 and joined Y Combinator in 2023. Raised a $12M Series A in January 2026 led by Dalton Caldwell at Standard Capital, with Y Combinator, Pathlight Ventures and angels from Dropbox, Substack and Alloy. Customers process over 700 billion rows per year through Artie.
