FPT Camera Brain On-Camera Edge AI Platform

FPT Telecom, founded on 31 January 1997, is a Vietnamese telecom and digital services company with more than 17,000 staff and about 330 service offices nationwide. Its FPT Camera business designs and supplies cameras, recorders, cloud storage and management software, together with installation and maintenance, for households, shops and enterprises.

FPT Camera Brain is an AI platform built by FPT engineers and embedded in FPT IP cameras, so video and audio are analysed on the device rather than on central GPU servers or in the cloud. It runs on the camera's integrated CPU and NPU with ultra-light models starting from 69 KB and covers more than 20 groups of tasks, including person, face and vehicle recognition, licence plate reading, people counting, intrusion, smoke and fire, abnormal behaviour and sound detection. Results feed the FPT Camera cloud and the VMSmart centralised management software for multi-site operations, attendance, heatmaps and alerts. The platform was commercialised on 30 April 2025 and now runs on more than 350,000 devices.

A retail or pharmacy chain can count visitors, map hot zones and recognise loyal customers across hundreds of stores from one VMSmart console. A factory or warehouse can use intrusion and smoke or fire detection at perimeters and storage areas. A school, hospital or apartment building can run face-based attendance and access monitoring without extra servers.

On-device analysis gives alerts within 0.1 to 0.5 seconds and, according to FPT, cuts false alarms by more than 50%. Not needing a GPU server saves an estimated 2 to 3 million VND of infrastructure per camera and reduces bandwidth use. Businesses get attendance, people counting and heatmaps from the same cameras used for security. Nationwide installation and 24/7 support come from FPT Telecom's branch network.

Vietnamese retailers, factories, schools and residential buildings are installing more cameras and want them to do more than record. Processing AI on the camera instead of central servers reduces cost and bandwidth, and national rules on camera information security issued in 2024 favour locally developed, compliant devices.
