1. Technology overview

Flashfood Inc. is a Toronto-based B Corp that helps grocery stores sell close-dated, overstocked, seasonal and slow-moving food that would otherwise be thrown away. It addresses the shrink that costs an average store more than 40,000 USD a year in wasted food, and operates in more than 2,000 partner stores across North America.

Store associates find surplus items during normal stock rotation, post them in the Flashfood For Partners app and sell them at up to 50% off to a network of over 1.4 million nearby shoppers, who pay in the app and pick up in store. The partner app launched in 2026 adds bulk scanning of up to 10 items, weighted-item and barcode scanning powered by Scandit, auto-filled product details and a live dashboard of the value posted and sold. Partners include Kroger, Loblaws, Meijer, Giant Eagle, Tops and Gelson's.

2. Highlighted features & specifications

  • Find It, Post It, Sell It: staff flag surplus during routine stock rotation without changing workflows.
  • Bulk posting: scan and post up to 10 items at once in the partner app.
  • Smart scanning: barcode and weighted-item recognition with auto-filled product details via Scandit.
  • Reporting dashboard: live value of items posted and sold per store.
  • Shopper network: over 1.4 million users notified of nearby deals.
  • In-app checkout and store pickup: payment handled in the app with collection at the store.

3. Potential application

  • Vietnamese supermarket chains selling near-date meat, dairy and bakery through an app channel with store pickup.
  • Convenience store networks clearing seasonal and overstocked items before expiry.
  • Fresh-produce retailers reducing end-of-week disposal while attracting price-sensitive shoppers.

4. Benefits

  • Lower shrink: partner data shows an average 27% reduction in shrink.
  • More store visits: 72% of surveyed Flashfood shoppers make more trips to the store.
  • Extra full-price sales: Flashfood shoppers spend about 20 USD more per month on full-price items.
  • Waste diversion: the network has rerouted more than 160 million pounds of food from landfill.

6. Other information

Press releases carry a Toronto dateline; Flashfood is B Corp certified. More than 2,000 partner stores across North America and over 400 million USD saved for shoppers. Appointed a CFO and CRO in May 2026 and released its 2025 Impact Report in August 2026.
