1. Technology overview
Parquery is a Swiss computer vision company founded in 2014 that started with camera-based smart parking and has expanded into passenger counting, traffic analysis, footfall and warehousing. It helps cities, airports, railways, resorts and car park operators know where free spaces are and how parking is used without installing a sensor in every bay.
Parquery AI analyses images from any camera, including existing ones, and is calibrated to each site using 3D modelling of camera views before installation. It detects occupancy, overstays and vehicles in reserved bays such as EV chargers or accessible spaces, and can read plates on the spot. Results feed guidance displays, mobile apps and a dashboard with occupancy, turnover and duration statistics. The software runs in the cloud, on-premise, at the edge or inside AXIS cameras, with a public API and a Milestone plugin.
2. Highlighted features & specifications
- Camera-agnostic detection: Uses any new or existing camera to detect parked vehicles.
- Parking guidance: Shows free spaces on display boards or in a mobile app.
- Enforcement alerts: Flags overstays and vehicles in EV, accessible or no-parking bays.
- On-the-spot LPR: Identifies which vehicle occupies each space.
- Analytics dashboard: Reports occupancy, turnover and duration by zone and period.
- Flexible deployment: Runs in the cloud, on-premise, at the edge or as an AXIS ACAP app.
3. Potential application
A shopping mall or airport car park in Vietnam can show free spaces per floor using existing cameras. City authorities can monitor occupancy and overstays in paid roadside parking zones. Industrial parks and logistics hubs can manage truck parking and loading bays.
4. Benefits
One deployment in Vevey covers more than 400 parking spaces with only 2 standard cameras, avoiding the cost of in-ground sensors. Parquery claims 99% accuracy for parking detection. Drivers are guided to free spaces, reducing search traffic, while operators get real-time alerts for overstays and misuse of reserved bays. Privacy features blur plates and faces and avoid storing images unless requested.
5. Market trends & opportunities
Cities and car park operators are digitising parking to reduce search traffic and enforce paid zones, and camera-based detection is replacing per-bay sensors because it reuses CCTV. Vietnamese cities are short of parking space and are piloting paid roadside parking and smart car parks, while malls, airports and industrial parks already run large CCTV networks.
