PLANET IMG-3400T IIoT Gateway and 5G Cellular Gateways

PLANET Technology Corporation is a Taiwanese networking company founded in 1993 that makes industrial and enterprise Ethernet, wireless, security and IoT equipment, sold through clients and distributors in more than 160 countries. It helps factories, utilities and transport operators bring legacy field devices onto IP networks without replacing them.

The IMG-3400T is an IP30 industrial gateway that converts between Modbus TCP and Modbus RTU/ASCII on four software-selectable RS-232, RS-422 or RS-485 ports, handling up to 32 TCP connections. It acts as an MQTT client and includes a built-in MQTT broker with TLS, QoS 0/1/2 and Last Will support, publishing serial data to SCADA, MES, edge servers or the cloud. Secure Boot, TLS 1.3, RADIUS or TACACS+ and SNMPv3 protect access, and devices are monitored through PLANET CloudNMS or on-premise NMS. The range also includes the ICG-2515P-NR industrial 5G NR cellular gateway with PoE+ ports.

• Modbus conversion: Modbus TCP to RTU/ASCII in master or slave modes with up to 32 TCP connections.
• MQTT client and broker: TLS, QoS 0/1/2, retained messages and Last Will support.
• Serial ports: four software-selectable RS-232, RS-422 or RS-485 ports up to 921 Kbps.
• Alarm I/O: two digital inputs, two digital outputs and a power-failure relay with SNMP traps.
• Security: Secure Boot, TLS 1.2/1.3, RADIUS/TACACS+ and SNMPv3.
• Management: PLANET CloudNMS or on-premise NMS for remote monitoring.

A Vietnamese factory can connect RS-485 power meters and PLCs to an energy management or MES platform over MQTT. A solar plant operator can bring inverter and weather station Modbus data into SCADA. A building management contractor can integrate chillers and meters in commercial buildings.

Existing PLCs, RTUs, meters and sensors join IP and MQTT architectures without field hardware replacement. The built-in MQTT broker removes the need for a separate broker server at small sites. Redundant 9-48 V DC or 24 V AC power with automatic failover and a -40 to 75 degree Celsius operating range suit substations and outdoor cabinets. Central monitoring through CloudNMS reduces site visits.

Plants and utilities are migrating Modbus-based equipment to MQTT and IIoT architectures to feed SCADA, MES and analytics. Security requirements such as Secure Boot and encrypted messaging are spreading to low-level gateways. In Vietnam, where many factories, buildings and solar plants rely on RS-485 Modbus meters, affordable gateways with MQTT are a direct path to energy and production monitoring.
