1. Technology overview
SCG Vietnam Cement Building Materials Co., Ltd. is the Vietnamese cement and building materials arm of Thailand's SCG group, which has operated in Vietnam since 1992. With offices in Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang and member brands such as Song Gianh cement, it supplies cement, roof tiles and fibre cement boards and aims to cut the embodied carbon of buildings and infrastructure.
SCG Low Carbon Super Cement is a premium PCB40 cement for foundations, masonry and plastering made with SCG Nano technology, which produces finer particles and denser concrete and mortar. Production uses biomass fuels such as rice husk and sawdust and waste heat recovery, cutting carbon emissions by about 20% versus conventional cement. Industrial grades SCG Low Carbon OPC Type I and Type II serve large projects. Customers include contractors, dealers, homebuilders and industrial project owners.
2. Highlighted features & specifications
- SCG Nano technology: finer cement particles reduce voids in concrete and plaster.
- PCB40 grade: complies with TCVN 6260:2020 and references ASTM and BS EN standards.
- Lower-carbon production: biomass fuels and waste heat recovery cut emissions by about 20%.
- Industrial OPC grades: SCG Low Carbon OPC Type I and Type II for large infrastructure and industrial projects.
- Verified footprint: international EPD and Singapore Green Building Product certification.
- Multi-purpose use: one product for foundations, masonry and plastering in 50 kg bags.
3. Potential application
Industrial project owners such as petrochemical and manufacturing complexes can specify low-carbon OPC grades to report lower Scope 3 emissions. Housing developers and contractors can use the PCB40 grade for foundations and plastering in EDGE-certified homes. Building material dealers can add a certified low-carbon line for green-procurement tenders.
4. Benefits
Production emissions are about 20% lower than conventional cement, helping projects reduce embodied carbon. Three-day compressive strength is about 7% higher than other premium Portland cements and about 45% above TCVN 6260:2020, speeding up formwork cycles. The cement suits LEED and EDGE green building requirements and is backed by an international EPD. Smooth, workable mortar improves adhesion and finish quality.
5. Market trends & opportunities
Vietnam is a major cement producer and exporter, and buyers in export markets and green-procurement projects increasingly ask for low-carbon cement with EPDs. National net zero 2050 commitments, the construction sector's green materials targets and the growth of LEED and EDGE certified buildings are shifting demand toward lower-carbon binders.
6. Other information
Part of SCG (Siam Cement Group, Thailand), present in Vietnam since 1992; the legal entity holds tax code 3101022679 issued in 2016, with offices in Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang. Member cement companies include Song Gianh, VCM and Buu Long. SCG Smartboard Ultra fibre cement board also holds an international EPD.
