1. Technology overview
Hoffmann Green Cement Technologies was founded in 2015 in Bournezeau, Vendee, France, to produce low-carbon cements containing no clinker, the energy-intensive component responsible for most cement emissions. It runs an automated 4.0 production site with no kiln or chimney, operating since 2019, and is expanding through new plants and exclusive international licences.
H-UKR, its flagship product, is made cold from industrial co-products and chemical-industry activators and supplied as a powder that can be stored in silos. It divides the carbon footprint of cement by five compared with CEM I, reaches 35 MPa at 48 hours and 65 MPa at 28 days, with setting comparable to CEM I 52.5 N. The range also includes H-IONA, H-EVA, H-EVA SOL, H-P2A and Pro Cement Green. Customers are ready-mix and precast producers, contractors, developers and public housing bodies.
2. Highlighted features & specifications
- Zero clinker: cement made cold from industrial co-products and chemical activators.
- Low footprint: carbon footprint divided by five versus CEM I Portland cement.
- Performance: 35 MPa at 48 hours and 65 MPa at 28 days with CEM I-like setting.
- Broad applications: floors, beams, columns, foundations, paving, precast and wind turbine footings.
- Product range: H-IONA, H-EVA, H-EVA SOL soil treatment, H-P2A and Pro Cement Green.
- Licensing model: exclusive licences for partners to build local vertical cement plants.
3. Potential application
Vietnamese steel or cement groups with slag supplies could license the technology to build local clinker-free cement units. Precast manufacturers supplying foreign-invested factories could offer very low-carbon elements. Renewable energy developers could use the cement for wind turbine and solar panel foundations.
4. Benefits
The carbon footprint of cement is divided by five compared with CEM I, helping projects meet strict embodied carbon limits. High early strength of 35 MPa at 48 hours supports fast formwork and precast cycles. CSTB technical assessments certify 100-year durability for H-UKR concrete formulations and make its use insurable. Production without kiln firing uses little energy and generates no waste.
5. Market trends & opportunities
Tighter embodied carbon regulations such as France's RE 2020 and green procurement in Europe, the Middle East and the US are creating demand for clinker-free cements. In Vietnam, abundant blast furnace slag and fly ash, carbon border pressure on exports and green building growth make licensed local production of low-carbon binders an emerging opportunity.
6. Other information
Founded in 2015 in Bournezeau, Vendee, France; first 4.0 site with 50,000 tonnes capacity operating since January 2019. Exclusive licences: a 22-year licence with Shurfah Group in Saudi Arabia (H-KSA 1 plant under construction since 2024), a 30-year US licence and Cemblend Ltd in the UK and Ireland. Supported by French Tech 2030 and France Relance.
