1. Technology overview
DURAflex is a fibre cement board brand of Saint-Gobain made by Hiep Phu JSC, whose factory in Long Hau Industrial Park, Long An opened in 2011 and joined Saint-Gobain Vietnam in 2016, with further lines added in 2016 and 2018. The brand offers lightweight dry-construction boards as an alternative to brick, plywood and heavier materials, and describes DURAflex Low Carbon as the first green cement board produced in Vietnam.
The boards combine 2X reinforcement with imported European cellulose fibres for flexibility and PureForm technology, which uses pozzolanic mineral additives and autoclaving to form calcium silicate and tobermorite crystals for strength and low porosity. The range covers DURAflex Low Carbon in 4 to over 12 mm, DURAwood Low Carbon wood-grain planks, DURAfiller joint compound and DURAvis screws, installed on Vinh Tuong steel frames. Customers are contractors, dealers, homebuilders and industrial, retail and hospitality projects.
2. Highlighted features & specifications
- 2X reinforcement: imported European cellulose fibres let boards bend to a 1 m radius.
- PureForm technology: pozzolanic additives and autoclaving create calcium silicate and tobermorite crystals.
- Thickness range: Low Carbon boards from 4 mm to over 12 mm for walls, ceilings, roof underlay and floors.
- DURAwood Low Carbon: wood-grain cement planks for decking, facades and decoration.
- System accessories: DURAfiller joint compound, DURAvis self-drilling screws and Vinh Tuong steel frames.
- Certifications: ASTM C1186 Type B, TCVN 8258:2009, Singapore Green Label, ISO 9001 and EPDs.
3. Potential application
Industrial park developers can use fibre cement walls and roof underlay for fast, fire-rated factory and warehouse fit-outs. Retail chains and homestay operators can build mezzanines, partitions and facades with lightweight boards and wood-grain planks. Green building consultants can use the EPDs to document embodied carbon in LOTUS or EDGE submissions.
4. Benefits
Boards are classified A1 non-combustible under EN 13501-1 and meet QCVN 06:2010/BXD, supporting fire safety in walls and ceilings. They are asbestos-free with no VOCs, formaldehyde or heavy metals, and resist moisture and termites. Floor boards carry loads up to 500 kg per square metre. Third-party EPDs for 6 to 12 mm Low Carbon boards provide verified data for green building projects.
5. Market trends & opportunities
Vietnam's construction industry is shifting toward lightweight, prefabricated and dry construction to speed up building and cut material use, while the Ministry of Construction promotes non-fired and green certified materials. Developers pursuing LOTUS, EDGE and LEED increasingly need building boards with EPDs, and fast-growing segments such as factories, container homes and homestays favour light panels.
6. Other information
Produced by Hiep Phu JSC, whose Long Hau, Long An factory opened in 2011 and became part of Saint-Gobain Vietnam in 2016.
