1. Technology overview
Hesai Technology is a LiDAR company founded in 2014 by David Li, Kai Sun and Shaoqing Xiang. It has a global operations center in Shanghai, offices in Palo Alto and Germany, in-house factories in China and Thailand, more than 1,000 employees and customers in over 40 countries. It is listed on Nasdaq (HSAI) and the Hong Kong Stock Exchange (2525).
For ADAS, Hesai supplies automotive-grade lidars that automakers mount behind the windshield, on the roof or around the body. ATX is a compact 120-degree long-range lidar with 256 channels and 230 m range, ETX reaches 300 m for L3 systems, AT128 offers 1200 x 128 resolution, and the fully solid-state FTX covers short-range blind spots. The sensors feed perception for automatic emergency braking, navigation on autopilot and automated valet parking, and are used by BYD, Chery, Zeekr, Li Auto and robotaxi developers.
2. Highlighted features & specifications
- ATX: 256-channel long-range lidar with 230 m range and 120 x 20 degree field of view.
- ETX: ultra-long-range lidar reaching 300 m for L3 driving systems.
- AT128: hybrid solid-state lidar with 1200 x 128 resolution and ASIC-based transceiver.
- FTX: fully solid-state short-range lidar for blind spots and parking.
- Automotive validation: IP6K7 and IP6K9K, thermal shock, vibration and salt spray testing.
- Robotaxi and robotics range: OT128, Pandar128 and JT series for L4 vehicles and robots.
3. Potential application
Vietnamese car and EV makers can source lidar for L2+ and L3 driver assistance on new models. Autonomous shuttle and logistics robot projects in industrial parks can use the robotics lidar range. Smart city operators can deploy lidar at roadsides and intersections for traffic sensing.
4. Benefits
Lidar improves detection at night, in tunnels and in backlit conditions where cameras struggle. ATX and AT128 carry ISO 26262 ASIL B product certification and all models follow ISO 21434 development. Annual capacity above 2.5 million units, with one unit produced every 20 seconds, supports mass-production programmes, and ATX weighs 360 g at 8 W for easy integration.
5. Market trends & opportunities
Lidar is moving from premium cars to mainstream models as automakers add highway and urban navigation assistance and as safety ratings tighten emergency braking requirements. Chinese and Asian brands entering Southeast Asia bring lidar-equipped models, and assemblers in the region need suppliers with automotive certifications and stable volume.
6. Other information
Founded in 2014, with a global operations center in Shanghai and factories in China and Thailand. Listed on Nasdaq in 2023 and dual-primary listed on HKEX in 2025. Reached 2 million cumulative lidar units in 2025 and was named the No. 1 global automotive lidar company for five consecutive years. Pandar128 was the first lidar with ISO/SAE 21434 certification.
