1. Technology overview
Farsoon Technologies was founded in October 2009 in Changsha, China, by Dr. Xu Xiaoshu, a laser sintering specialist who previously served as technical director at DTM Corporation. It manufactures industrial polymer and metal laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) systems, is listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange STAR Market, employs more than 700 people and sells through channels in over 30 countries and regions.
Farsoon follows an open-platform approach in which customers can adjust process parameters and use third-party materials. The metal range includes the FS350M, the FS721M CAMS with eight 1000 W lasers and continuous production through exchangeable cartridges, and large-format FS811M, FS1211M and FS1311M systems. The polymer range covers Flight fibre-laser systems such as the HT1001P and HT601P, the ultra-temperature UT252P, plus metal and polymer powders, build software and powder handling equipment. Customers serve aerospace, automotive, molds and tooling, healthcare and consumer products.
2. Highlighted features & specifications
- Metal LPBF systems: FS350M, FS721M CAMS, FS811M, FS1211M and FS1311M cover small to very large parts.
- Continuous production: CAMS uses a conveyor and exchangeable cartridges to cut downtime between builds.
- Polymer Flight technology: fibre-laser sintering delivers fine detail and higher throughput for nylon parts.
- Ultra-temperature SLS: the UT252P processes high-performance polymers.
- Open materials: Farsoon powders plus partner materials such as Tekna titanium and ALM polymers.
- Process innovations: beam shaping, a support reduction system and fine laser spot printing improve productivity and precision.
3. Potential application
Vietnamese mold makers can print inserts with conformal cooling channels to shorten injection cycle times. Motorcycle, bicycle and automotive part suppliers can produce lightweight titanium or aluminium components in small series. Medical device companies and hospitals can use titanium LPBF for porous implants and polymer SLS for orthotic and prosthetic parts.
4. Benefits
Open parameters and materials let manufacturers develop their own processes and powders instead of being locked to one supplier. Large build envelopes, such as 720 x 420 x 650 mm on the FS721M CAMS, and multi-laser configurations support serial production of large parts, while conveyor and cartridge exchange reduce machine downtime between jobs. Farsoon reports more than 100 of its polymer systems deployed with a single rapid manufacturing customer for serial production.
5. Market trends & opportunities
Industrial additive manufacturing is shifting from prototyping to serial production, with demand for larger multi-laser machines, lower cost per part and open materials. Chinese LPBF makers are expanding internationally with competitive pricing, and Southeast Asian mold makers, automotive suppliers and medical device companies are adopting metal and polymer powder-bed systems for tooling with conformal cooling and end-use parts.
