1. Technology overview
Croft Agricultural Corporation (Croft AI) is a Korean agtech startup founded in 2022 by CEO Hee Kyung Ryoo and CTO Woo Ram Lee, based in Jeonju, North Jeolla. It aims to make commercial greenhouses easier to run by anyone, addressing the shortage of skilled growers and the labour needed for crop registration and daily climate decisions.
The solution has three parts. GrowBot is an autonomous robot that moves through the greenhouse, scans and phenotypes each plant and detects issues at plant level. GrowPilot is an AI controller that turns this plant data into environmental decisions, continuously adjusting growing conditions and improving with every harvest cycle; it is sensor- and hardware-agnostic and can integrate with existing systems such as Priva. GrowZone is a turnkey smart CEA package that combines greenhouse design, automation and plant intelligence. Croft reports more than 30 active greenhouse deployments in Korea.
2. Highlighted features & specifications
- GrowBot: autonomous robot that scans and phenotypes each plant as it grows.
- GrowPilot: AI controller that adjusts climate and growing conditions from plant data in real time.
- Hardware-agnostic integration: connects to existing sensors and climate computers such as Priva.
- Strain baselines: sets a biological baseline per variety and learns with each harvest cycle.
- Multi-greenhouse dashboard: consolidates several greenhouses under one management view.
- GrowZone: turnkey smart greenhouse combining design, automation and plant intelligence.
3. Potential application
- Cherry tomato and melon greenhouse companies in Lam Dong automating climate decisions across several sites.
- Agricultural groups investing in new high-tech greenhouses using GrowZone as a turnkey package.
- Greenhouses with existing climate computers adding robotic phenotyping for crop registration.
4. Benefits
- JE Farms, a 20,000 m2 cherry tomato greenhouse, doubled its yield and reported a 45% gain in operational efficiency.
- Croft cites 2-4 times improvement in annual yield across deployments.
- Each GrowBot saves 80-100 hours of work per month on crop scanning.
- Works with sensors and hardware a greenhouse already owns, lowering upfront cost.
5. Market trends & opportunities
Greenhouse growers across East and Southeast Asia face ageing workforces and a shortage of experienced head growers, pushing demand for autonomous climate control and robotic crop monitoring. As Vietnam expands high-tech greenhouses for tomatoes and melons, tools that let less experienced staff run facilities consistently are becoming important.
6. Other information
Founded in 2022 by Hee Kyung Ryoo and Woo Ram Lee; headquartered in Jeonju, Jeonbuk, South Korea. Works with more than 30 Korean growers. In August 2026 signed an MoU with Asai Nursery in Mie Prefecture, its first strategic partnership with a large grower outside Korea, covering five tomato greenhouses on 13 hectares.
