1. Technology overview
Korial is the brand of Energy Robotics GmbH, based in Darmstadt, Germany, which rebranded from Energy Robotics in May 2026. It develops a hardware-agnostic AI platform for autonomous inspection and operations in oil and gas, power and utilities, and chemical plants, where routine manual rounds are slow, costly and expose staff to hazards. The platform has run more than one million autonomous missions across five continents.
Korial orchestrates mixed fleets of robots and drones, such as Boston Dynamics Spot and DJI Dock 3 with Matrice 4 TD, as one operation. Operators build missions by selecting points of interest on a 3D site model, test them in simulation and then run them autonomously. Reusable AI skills read gauges, valves and text, perform thermal analysis, map gas readings and detect spills, while a unified data pipeline feeds results into enterprise systems. Customers include E.ON, Evonik, Merck, Shell Rheinland and illwerke vkw.
2. Highlighted features & specifications
- Mixed-fleet orchestration: robots and drones with visual, thermal, audio and gas sensors run as one operation.
- Mission builder: missions created from points of interest on a 3D site model and tested in simulation.
- AI inspection skills: gauge reading, OCR, valve state, lube oil level and seal detection.
- Thermal and gas analysis: hotspot detection, gas maps and live limit alerts.
- Safety checks: spill, fire extinguisher, fence defect and blocked-exit detection.
- Remote site visibility: teleoperation with obstacle detection and a unified data pipeline.
3. Potential application
- A refinery or gas processing plant in Vietnam running daily gauge and gas-leak rounds with quadruped robots.
- A power utility using docked drones to inspect substations and tank roofs.
- A chemical park monitoring safety equipment and spills across multiple sites from one control room.
4. Benefits
- Takes staff out of hazardous zones by moving routine inspection rounds to robots and drones.
- Turns analog gauges and valve states into trend data on every mission.
- Avoids hardware lock-in: intelligence sits in the platform across supported manufacturers.
- Expert inspection techniques are captured once and reused across sites.
5. Market trends & opportunities
Energy and process industries face ageing workforces and stricter safety requirements, driving interest in autonomous inspection with legged robots and docked drones. In Vietnam and Southeast Asia, refineries, gas processing plants, power plants and chemical parks are candidates for remote, data-driven inspection as operators digitize asset management.
