1. Technology overview
Satrec Initiative is a Korean Earth observation company founded in 1999 by engineers from the KAIST satellite research centre who built Korea's first satellites. It designs and builds small satellites, payloads and ground systems for governments and companies that want their own observation capability.
The SpaceEye family covers SpaceEye-T with 0.25 m resolution, the smaller SpaceEye-M with 0.8 m resolution for constellations, and SpaceEye-R, an X-band SAR satellite with 0.5 m resolution. The company also supplies EO payloads, a satellite platform, ground systems and components such as star trackers, sun sensors, GPS receivers, S-band transceivers, X-band transmitters and steerable antennas, plus satellite technology training. Past customers include Malaysia's ATSB, Singapore's NTU, DSO and ST Electronics, and UAE's MBRSC.
2. Highlighted features & specifications
- SpaceEye-T: optical satellite with 0.25 m panchromatic and 1 m multispectral imagery, 12 km swath.
- SpaceEye-M: small optical satellite with 0.8 m resolution for high-revisit constellations.
- SpaceEye-R: small X-band SAR satellite with 0.5 m spot resolution for night and all-weather imaging.
- EO payloads: EOS-T and EOS-M telescopes for integration on other platforms.
- Space components: star tracker, sun sensor, GPS receiver, S-band transceiver and X-band transmitter.
- Ground systems and training: image receiving, mission control and satellite technology courses.
3. Potential application
- Vietnamese agencies acquiring a SpaceEye-M or SAR satellite with ground station and engineer training.
- Domestic satellite builders sourcing star trackers, sun sensors and X-band transmitters for their own platforms.
- Mapping and natural resources bodies operating a ground system to receive high-resolution imagery directly.
4. Benefits
- Full-system supply: integration, platform, EO payload and ground systems from one contractor.
- Proven export record with projects for Malaysia, Singapore, the UAE, Türkiye and Spain.
- Choice of very high resolution optical, small constellation optical and SAR satellites.
- Components and training help customers build national satellite engineering skills.
5. Market trends & opportunities
Governments in Southeast Asia want sovereign Earth observation for mapping, maritime surveillance and disaster response, and increasingly buy small satellites with technology transfer instead of relying only on purchased imagery. Constellations of smaller satellites are also lowering the cost of frequent high-resolution coverage.
6. Other information
Founded in 1999 by engineers from KAIST's satellite research centre. Has delivered over 30 domestic and overseas space projects, including RazakSAT (Malaysia), X-SAT, TeLEOS-1 and NeuSAR (Singapore), DubaiSat-1 and -2 and KhalifaSat (UAE) and Deimos-2 (Spain). Builds the NEONSAT micro-satellite constellation for the Korean government. Group companies include SI Imaging Services and SI Analytics.
