1. Technology overview
Recover is a Madrid-based materials science company that turns textile waste into recycled cotton fiber. It is a spin-off of Hilaturas Ferre, a spinning business started by the Ferre family, and describes its work in sustainable materials as dating back to 1947. It addresses the large volume of cutting waste and used garments that end up landfilled or burned while brands need lower-impact cotton.
Its proprietary mechanical process cuts, treats, shreds and packs sorted textile waste into fiber without chemical separation. The range includes RCotton (pure recycled cotton for overdyeing), RMix (recycled cotton with up to 40% polyester, so polycotton does not need separating), RDenim (denim waste keeping its indigo colour) and Recover One, a ready-to-spin, colour-matched blend with recycled polyester made with FiberSync technology. Recover also offers yarns, fabrics and blank garments through mill partners. Customers are spinners, mills, brands and retailers.
2. Highlighted features & specifications
- RCotton: pure, unblended recycled cotton fiber in white, ecru or custom colours for overdyeing.
- RMix: recycled cotton fiber containing up to 40% polyester for circular and flat knit apparel.
- RDenim: fiber from post-industrial and consumer denim waste that keeps its indigo colour.
- Recover One: ready-to-spin blend of colour-matched recycled cotton and recycled polyester in solid, heather and melange.
- FiberSync blending: proprietary intimate blending process for colour accuracy and uniform blends.
- Downstream offer: Recover Yarns, Recover Fabrics and customisable Recover Blanks through mill partners.
3. Potential application
Vietnamese garment factories can send sorted cutting waste to the Dong Nai plant and buy back recycled cotton fiber for closed-loop programmes with brands. Spinning mills can add RMix or Recover One yarns for knitwear orders requiring recycled content. Denim mills can use RDenim to cut virgin cotton and dyeing in denim lines.
4. Benefits
According to Recover life-cycle assessments for Spain and Bangladesh verified by EcoReview, its recycled cotton fiber can cut water use by up to 99.9% and carbon emissions by up to 93% versus conventional cotton fiber. Recover One removes downstream overdyeing, saving processing time and material cost for spinners. RMix recycles cotton-polyester blends without fiber separation. Local supply from the Vietnam plant shortens lead times and shipping costs for Asian mills.
5. Market trends & opportunities
EU extended producer responsibility rules and brand recycled-content targets are raising demand for textile-to-textile fiber. Vietnam is one of the largest textile exporters and generates large volumes of pre-consumer cutting waste, so recycling capacity close to garment factories lets exporters meet buyer requirements on recycled content and traceability.
