1. Technology overview
S-Mat Inc. (formerly Smart Shopping) is a Tokyo company based in Shinagawa that builds IoT inventory management and process improvement tools. Its Smartmat Cloud service is used by more than 1,400 companies, including Suzuki, Toyota Industries, Mitsubishi Chemical Group and Kyocera, and in Vietnam it is offered through KDDI Vietnam's IoT services.
Items are placed on battery-powered weight mats in sizes from A6 to 500 kg, which record consumption and receipts automatically as stock data. The cloud console shows current stock, sends alerts and can trigger automatic reorders or replenishment instructions when thresholds are crossed. Product lines cover an inventory optimisation AI agent, customer-site stock monitoring, mis-loading prevention and actual-stock input for MRP, with CSV, API and RFID links to core systems.
2. Highlighted features & specifications
- IoT weight mats: A6 to A3 sizes, a 500 kg mat and multi-mats record stock changes automatically.
- Cloud console: stock levels, orders and settings managed from PC or smartphone.
- Threshold alerts: notifications for shortages and excess stock.
- Automatic replenishment: reorder or restocking instructions triggered by stock levels.
- Mis-loading prevention: detects wrong materials being added on the line.
- System integration: CSV, API and RFID links to ERP and MRP.
3. Potential application
An electronics or automotive parts plant in Vietnam can track screws, terminals and welding wire at the line side. A chemical or paint maker can monitor drums and bottles of raw materials. A maintenance store can keep spare parts above minimum levels with automatic alerts.
4. Benefits
Automatic weighing removes manual stock counts for small parts, liquids, powders and rolls that are hard to count. Alerts and automatic replenishment instructions reduce stock-outs and excess stock on the line. One reading per day lets a mat run on batteries for a theoretical five years, so mats can be placed in clean rooms or locked stores without wiring.
5. Market trends & opportunities
Factories in Vietnam face rising labour costs and pressure to cut working capital, yet indirect materials and spare parts are still counted by hand. Sensor-based inventory tracking is a simple first IoT project that pays back through fewer stock-outs and less excess stock.
6. Other information
S-Mat Inc. (formerly Smart Shopping) is headquartered in Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo, and holds ISO/IEC 27001 certification. Smartmat Cloud is used by more than 1,400 companies. KDDI Vietnam offers Smartmat in Vietnam as part of its IoT portfolio.
