1. Technology overview
Samsung SDS is an IT services company that has led MES projects for about 30 years, with more than 20 years of global experience. Its Vietnam website presents Nexplant MES in Vietnamese for semiconductor, display, component, materials and secondary battery manufacturers.
Nexplant MES has four parts: scheduling and dispatching with real-time job allocation and capacity simulation; manufacturing operation covering resources, data collection, WIP, traceability and quality; the MOS framework with modelling tools, a workflow engine and APIs; and Nexplant TC for equipment control over SECS/GEM, SEM and HSMS with auto-failover. The system runs 24/7, supports upgrades without stopping the plant and has been proven on more than 100,000 pieces of equipment.
2. Highlighted features & specifications
- Scheduling and dispatching: production planning, real-time job allocation and static capacity simulation.
- Manufacturing operation: resource management, data collection, WIP, traceability and quality.
- MOS framework: modelling tools, workflow engine, business models, APIs and application framework.
- Nexplant TC: equipment control over SECS/GEM, SEM and HSMS with real-time monitoring.
- High availability: active-active HA, parallel flow execution and auto-failover.
- Non-stop upgrades: system updates applied while the factory keeps running.
3. Potential application
A semiconductor assembly and test plant in northern Vietnam can run dispatching and equipment control on Nexplant MES. A battery component supplier can trace lots and quality data across automated lines. A display module maker can upgrade MES without stopping production.
4. Benefits
Rule-based automatic decisions and real-time dispatching keep high-volume lines running around the clock. The vendor cites 10 PPM reliability and processing proven on more than 100,000 pieces of equipment, which suits fabs and battery plants with dense automation. Upgrades can be applied while the plant is running, avoiding planned shutdowns for system changes.
5. Market trends & opportunities
Vietnam is attracting new investment in semiconductor assembly and testing, displays and battery components, much of it from Korean groups and their suppliers. These plants need MES that handles equipment automation standards such as SECS/GEM from the start, with local-language support for engineers.
6. Other information
Samsung SDS publishes Nexplant MES on its Vietnam website in Vietnamese. In 2018 it combined Nexplant with the MESplus system of its affiliate Miracom to offer customised intelligent factory platforms, which the companies said cut system build time by 20%. Related products include Nexplant SLM and Nexplant EAM.
