1. Technology overview
Eplus3D is a Chinese manufacturer of laser powder bed fusion (PBF) metal 3D printers headquartered in Hangzhou, with facilities in Beijing, Stuttgart and Houston. Its roots go back to 1993, when founder Feng Tao led development of China's first SLS machine; the company separated from Shining3D in 2021 and marked its 10th anniversary in 2024. It helps manufacturers produce large, complex metal parts that are hard or slow to make with casting and machining.
The EP-M range is organised in three lines: the Atlas Line for large monolithic parts (EP-M450 up to the EP-M3050 with up to 256 lasers), the Forge Line for series production (EP-M300L, EP-M400S and the new EP-M550 with 550 x 550 x 450 mm build volume and up to 8 lasers), and the Flex Line for R&D. Machines use multi-laser synergy optics and a closed-loop powder system, and the company supplies aluminium, titanium, nickel, copper and steel powders. Customers include aerospace, automotive, energy, tooling, medical and semiconductor manufacturers.
2. Highlighted features & specifications
- Atlas Line: large-format machines up to the EP-M3050 build monolithic parts above three metres with up to 256 lasers.
- Forge Line: EP-M300L, EP-M400S and EP-M550 target series production with multi-laser productivity.
- Flex Line: EP-M150 to EP-M400 serve research, dental and small part production.
- Multi-laser synergy: a customised optical path coordinates many lasers in a compact footprint.
- Closed-loop powder system: automated powder handling raises material utilisation and safety.
- Materials portfolio: aluminium, titanium, nickel, cobalt chrome, copper, refractory and steel powders.
3. Potential application
Vietnamese mould and die makers can print inserts with conformal cooling channels to shorten injection cycle times. Precision engineering suppliers to aerospace and energy customers can produce titanium and nickel alloy parts in series on Forge Line machines. Universities and research institutes can use Flex Line systems to develop alloys and train additive manufacturing engineers.
4. Benefits
Eplus3D reports more than 100 super-meter metal PBF machines delivered worldwide and equipment exported to more than 50 countries and regions. The EP-M550 fits up to 8 lasers into a footprint of about 7.6 square metres, raising output per floor area for series production. A closed-loop powder system automates powder handling for high material utilisation, and the red-laser copper process enables large copper components for thermal and electrical applications.
5. Market trends & opportunities
Metal additive manufacturing is scaling toward larger build volumes and more lasers for aerospace, space launch, energy and tooling, while Chinese machine makers have become major global suppliers at competitive cost. Southeast Asian mould makers, precision engineering firms and aerospace suppliers are exploring metal 3D printing for conformal cooling, lightweight parts and fast spare parts, creating demand for productive, mid-to-large format systems.
6. Other information
