Indra ElectroX Electrochemical Wastewater Treatment

Indra Water, the brand of Inphlox Water Systems Pvt Ltd, is an Indian deep-tech water company started in 2018 by Amrit Om Nayak and Krunal Patel, headquartered in Thane, Maharashtra, with a manufacturing facility in Bhiwandi. It provides decentralised treatment that lets industries, hotels and townships recycle wastewater at the source without chemical dosing. It took part in Imagine H2O Asia's third cohort and its Vietnam Water Week programme.

Its patented ElectroX platform is a non-contact micro-electrolysis reactor that combines six reactions in one unit: electrocoagulation, electroflotation, electroflocculation, electrodisinfection, electro-oxidation and electrosorption, generating oxidants in situ to remove surfactants, dyes, heavy metals, pathogens, nutrients, petrochemical waste and COD. Modular skids range from the 2 KLPD NANO to the L02 at up to 1,000 KLPD, followed by the PhloX separation unit and the Indra Spectrum IoT layer for real-time monitoring and remote control. Customers include Unilever, Tata Steel, JSW Steel, Taj and Aditya Birla Group.

Textile and dyeing factories in Vietnam can add ElectroX skids to remove colour and COD and reuse water in processes. Hotels and resorts in coastal areas can recycle sewage for flushing and landscape irrigation. Steel and metal finishing plants can treat heavy-metal effluent and cut freshwater intake for cooling towers.

ElectroX removes chemical dosing from primary treatment and produces less sludge, and the company claims up to 99% water recovery, around 90% smaller footprint and 35% lower lifecycle cost. Treated water can be reused in cooling towers, boilers, processes and flushing. Plug-and-play skids can retrofit existing plants and absorb surges in pollutant load. The company reports more than 5 billion litres treated to date.

Manufacturers and hospitality operators in Asia face tighter discharge standards, rising freshwater costs and buyer pressure to show water stewardship. Decentralised, chemical-light treatment that recycles water at the source is gaining traction over large centralised plants, especially for textiles, steel, chemicals and hotels in water-stressed regions.

Indra Water was started in 2018 and operates as Inphlox Water Systems Pvt Ltd, with more than 85 staff, four granted patents and ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 certification. Investors include Emerald Technology Ventures, PEAK Sustainability Ventures, No/Now Ventures and Climate Angels. It won Marico Innovation Foundation's Indian Innovation Icons 2025 award and was part of Imagine H2O Asia Cohort 3.
