1. Technology overview
Simantic, Inc. is a Waterloo, Canada startup founded in 2025 by University of Waterloo engineering students who previously worked on firmware at Tesla and Neuralink, and it is part of Y Combinator's Fall 2026 batch. It addresses the weeks or months that embedded teams wait for physical hardware before they can fully test firmware, and positions its simulator as infrastructure for AI agents that write hardware code.
Cloud Sim runs unmodified firmware binaries on virtual microcontrollers such as RP2040 and STM32 parts, with STM32H743 and H753 fully modelled from version 0.8. On-chip GPIO, ADC, UART, SPI, I2C, CAN and CAN FD, USB, Ethernet and BLE/Wi-Fi are simulated, and Python-scripted peers model external sensors and devices in virtual time on shared CAN buses, UART links and Ethernet segments. Runs are deterministic for CI, with assertions on UART output, a GDB stub, OpenOCD JTAG and waveform-level views of signals. Access is through the sim CLI, an HTTP API, a TypeScript package and an MCP server for AI agents, with private hosting for enterprises.
2. Highlighted features & specifications
- Virtual MCUs: runs real firmware on modelled RP2040 and STM32 parts including STM32H743/H753.
- Peripheral coverage: GPIO, ADC, UART, SPI, I2C, CAN/CAN FD, USB, Ethernet and BLE/Wi-Fi.
- Scripted peers: Python models of external sensors and devices on CAN, UART and Ethernet.
- CI-ready runs: deterministic execution with UART assertions and setup checks.
- Debug access: GDB stub, OpenOCD JTAG, UART bridges and waveform-level signal views.
- Agent and API access: sim CLI, HTTP API, TypeScript package and MCP server for AI agents.
3. Potential application
A Vietnamese automotive software outsourcing team can test STM32 CAN firmware in CI before the client's ECU hardware arrives. A satellite or drone electronics team can simulate onboard computer firmware with scripted sensor peers. A university embedded systems lab can let students and AI tools test code on virtual MCUs.
4. Benefits
Firmware can be tested on every commit long before boards are manufactured, reducing schedule risk from hardware delays. Deterministic runs make CI results reproducible and simplify debugging of intermittent faults. AI coding agents can test the code they write against a simulated MCU through the MCP server. Plans start with a free Community tier and a Developer plan at 100 USD per month, with private hosting on Enterprise.
5. Market trends & opportunities
As AI agents begin writing embedded code, teams need a way to verify that code without waiting for or risking physical hardware, and simulation-first development is spreading from automotive and aerospace to wider electronics. Vietnam's embedded software and automotive electronics outsourcing sector, which often works on client hardware that arrives late, can benefit from virtual test environments.
6. Other information
Founded in 2025 in Waterloo, Canada, by Seungmin Hong (CEO) and Ahnaf Shahriar (CTO). The company has raised about 600,000 USD, joined the Velocity incubator and was accepted into Y Combinator's Fall 2026 batch. Its website moved from simantic.dev to simantic.com.
