1. Technology overview
Internet Initiative Japan Inc. (IIJ) was founded in 1992 and is listed on the Prime Market of the Tokyo Stock Exchange. It provides internet access and comprehensive network, cloud and security solutions from Japan and runs a large backbone network connected to the US, UK and Asia.
In June 2025 IIJ and NTT DOCOMO BUSINESS announced an integrated security offering for cyber-physical systems that combines OsecT and Safous in a pre-installed hardware appliance. OsecT is an OT-aware IDS that passively inspects mirrored traffic, builds a device inventory and alerts on unknown endpoints or abnormal protocols, while Safous gives engineers and vendors least-privilege remote access with session recording.
2. Highlighted features & specifications
- OT-aware IDS: passively inspects mirrored on-premises OT traffic and sends live alerts on suspicious activity.
- Device inventory: builds a list of OT devices and flags unknown endpoints.
- Protocol anomaly detection: alerts on unauthorized communication and abnormal protocols.
- Privileged remote access: encrypted least-privilege tunnels to approved OT applications through a secure portal.
- Access governance: credential vaulting, just-in-time approvals, fine-grained policies and full session recording.
- Pre-installed appliance: hardware delivered with the software already loaded.
3. Potential application
A Japanese-invested factory in Vietnam could deploy the appliance to monitor production network traffic and to govern vendor maintenance sessions. A utility could use the access logs and IDS alerts together during incident investigation.
4. Benefits
Combines asset inventory and intrusion alerts with controlled remote access in one appliance. Passive inspection of mirrored traffic avoids touching production networks. Security and operations teams can review IDS alerts together with access logs to speed up investigation. Software installs quickly in existing OT environments.
5. Market trends & opportunities
Expanded remote operation and maintenance expose control networks to new risks, and many operators still lack accurate OT asset inventories. IIJ states ASEAN availability is expected in 2026 to support regional smart manufacturing, which is relevant to Vietnamese factories.
6. Other information
IIJ founded 1992, listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange Prime Market in 2022. Sold in Japan exclusively by NTT DOCOMO BUSINESS from 2025-09-01; ASEAN availability expected in 2026. Pricing not disclosed.
