Typhoon Thai LLM and Speech API

Typhoon is described on its site as Thailand's frontier AI research lab, operated by SCB DataX Co., Ltd. under the SCB 10X group, whose terms are governed by Thai law. It develops language models optimized for Thai and provides them through a free API and open model releases.

The model family covers text and reasoning models, vision, OCR (Typhoon OCR), translation, and speech recognition including Typhoon Isan ASR for the Isan dialect and a Whisper-based model. Governments and enterprises in Southeast Asia are funding national or regional language models because global LLMs handle Thai, including dialects such as Isan, less accurately. Local models also support data-sovereignty requirements in finance and public services.
