1. Technology overview
Overlord Labs is a fabless semiconductor company based in San Jose, California, according to funding coverage. It develops GENESIS, a battery management chip family that moves battery modeling and control into silicon, aimed at smart glasses, wearables, hearables and other edge AI devices.
GENESIS combines precision sensing of voltage, current and temperature with dual RISC-V processors and on-chip physics-based battery models, so no discrete MCU is needed. The architecture has three parts: OverMind for real-time battery modeling, ShadowCore for isolated custom firmware and OverWatch for telemetry and tuning. The first device targets single-cell systems, and select partners work with it through simulation, FPGA prototyping and early firmware.
2. Highlighted features & specifications
- Dual RISC-V processors: the chip runs stock or custom firmware on isolated cores.
- Physics-based battery models: on-chip models track battery behavior in real time under load.
- Adaptive control: charging curves, thermal limits and power profiles adjust in real time.
- Precision sensing: voltage, current and temperature are measured on the chip.
- Telemetry: state of charge, state of health and diagnostics are reported in real time.
- Security: hardware-rooted security and battery authentication are included.
3. Potential application
Electronics makers in Vietnam can evaluate GENESIS for wireless earbuds, smart watches or AR glasses to extend battery life and improve safety. Edge AI device makers can use its telemetry for battery health reporting.
4. Benefits
On-chip battery models remove the need for a separate microcontroller, saving board space in compact devices. Predictive protection flags cell faults before failure. Firmware can be configured per application and updated after deployment. Hardware-rooted security supports battery authentication.
5. Market trends & opportunities
Compact devices such as smart glasses, hearables and wearables need more accurate battery management in very small form factors, including support for silicon-anode cells. Vietnamese and ASEAN electronics makers that assemble consumer and edge AI devices are potential buyers of such integrated BMS chips.
6. Other information
San Jose, California per funding coverage. Total funding USD 10 million including USD 4.35 million seed extension led by Band of Angels (2026). Volume production targeted for the first half of 2027. Silicon has taped out and is operating.
