1. Technology overview
VitalFluid is a Dutch company based at High Tech Campus in Eindhoven, spun out of Eindhoven University of Technology. It makes machines that produce plasma activated water on site as a residue-free alternative to chemical fungicides for greenhouse, orchard and open-field growers.
Its Vidar system generates the product in an on-site plasma reactor using only air, water and electricity. The output is applied with existing spraying equipment and later breaks down into a nutrient the plant absorbs. The company cites more than 30 trials on strawberries, cucumbers and apples and long-term contracts with British strawberry growers.
2. Highlighted features & specifications
- On-site generation: plasma reactor makes activated water from air, water and electricity.
- Residue-free control: positioned as an alternative to chemical fungicides.
- Existing equipment: applied with standard spraying equipment.
- Broad settings: for greenhouse, orchard and open-field growers.
- Trial base: more than 30 trials on strawberries, cucumbers and apples.
3. Potential application
Strawberry and cucumber greenhouses in Da Lat could test plasma activated water against powdery mildew. Export fruit orchards, such as dragon fruit or grapes, could evaluate it to meet residue requirements. Large high-tech farms could assess on-site generation to cut fungicide logistics.
4. Benefits
Provides a chemical-free option for fungal disease control, claimed to be as effective as chemical fungicides. Production on site from air, water and electricity removes the need to buy and store fungicide. It leaves no residue and is applied with existing sprayers. UK growers replaced chemical powdery mildew control on over 100 hectares in the first season.
5. Market trends & opportunities
Retailers and regulators are pushing growers to cut chemical residues, and fungicide approvals are narrowing in Europe. On-site generation models for crop protection are emerging as an alternative to shipped agrochemicals. Southeast Asian export growers face similar residue limits in fruit and vegetables.
6. Other information
Based at High Tech Campus, Eindhoven, Netherlands, founded by researchers from Eindhoven University of Technology. Announced a EUR 17.2 million Series A on 25 August 2026, co-led by Invest-NL, including a EUR 2.7 million RVO innovation credit. Expanding in the UK and the US.
