1. Technology overview
Phylo, Inc. was spun out of the Biomni research project at the Stanford AI Lab, which began in June 2024 according to its announcement. It builds collaborative AI agents for biologists to make discoveries faster.
Biomni Lab is described as the first Integrated Biology Environment, with 100+ prebuilt agentic workflows across the biopharma value chain and more than 300 integrated databases and tools. Enterprise customers can run it in a single-tenant deployment in their own VPC. Named customers include Bayer, Chugai, Ono Pharmaceutical and Merck KGaA.
2. Highlighted features & specifications
- Agentic workflows: 100+ prebuilt workflows across the biopharma value chain.
- Tool integration: more than 300 databases, software systems and analytical tools in one environment.
- Scientific validity checks: clarifies questions, checks reasoning against a biology knowledge graph and cites references.
- Target Atlas (beta): app for prioritizing therapeutic targets with traceable scores.
- Enterprise deployment: single-tenant deployment in the customer's VPC with SOC 2 and ISO 27001.
3. Potential application
Target prioritization and omics analysis for pharma R&D groups. Genomics data analysis for university labs. Literature-driven hypothesis support for biotech start-ups.
4. Benefits
Combines literature, databases and analysis tools in one workspace for biologists. A Ginkgo Bioworks case study reports turning weeks-long workflows into hours across more than 10 complex analyses. Enterprise data stays inside the customer's boundary and is not used to train models. Target Atlas keeps every target score traceable to underlying data.
5. Market trends & opportunities
Pharma and biotech teams are adopting AI agents to cope with growing volumes of biological data and literature. Vietnamese universities, hospitals' research units and pharma companies with limited bioinformatics staff may benefit from agent-based analysis tools. A free trial is available via the product site.
6. Other information
Phylo, Inc., spun out of the Stanford AI Lab Biomni project. Seed round of USD 13.5 million co-led by Andreessen Horowitz and Menlo Ventures' Anthology Fund with Anthropic, announced 3 February 2026. ISO 27001 certified and SOC 2 Type 2 compliant.
