1. Technology overview
Mobile Industrial Robots (MiR) was founded in 2013 in Odense, Denmark, by Niels Jul Jacobsen, who previously helped build Universal Robots. The company set out to help manufacturing and healthcare facilities move materials internally without fixed conveyors or guided vehicle rails, and became part of Teradyne in 2018.
MiR builds a range of autonomous mobile robots, from the compact MiR100 to the heavy-duty MiR1350, that navigate dynamic indoor environments using onboard sensors and mapping software rather than magnetic strips or floor markers. Robots are paired with modular top modules such as hooks, shelves, and lifts, and are deployed across manufacturing plants, warehouses, and hospitals to move goods, carts, and supplies between stations.
2. Highlighted features & specifications
1. Fleet of AMR models: MiR100 to MiR1350 cover payloads from 100 kg to 1,350 kg for different tasks.
2. Autonomous navigation: robots map facilities and reroute around obstacles without magnetic strips or rails.
3. Modular top modules: hooks, shelves, lifts, and conveyors attach to the same robot base.
4. Fleet management software: MiR Fleet coordinates multiple robots and traffic across a site.
5. Safety-rated operation: robots work alongside people on shared factory and hospital floors.
6. Cross-industry use: deployed in manufacturing plants, warehouses, and hospitals for internal logistics.
