1. Technology overview
Flybotix is a Swiss company based in Lausanne, founded in 2019 as an EPFL spin-off. It develops and produces drones that inspect confined and hard-to-reach industrial spaces where sending people is slow, costly or risky.
The ASIO X drone collects LiDAR and image data inside enclosed assets. ASIO Explore is a desktop application that measures defects and distances on 3D point clouds on site, and ASIO Connect is a cloud platform for data management and AI analytics. Target sectors are energy production, water infrastructure, maritime, underground mining, cement and chemical production.
2. Highlighted features & specifications
- ASIO X drone: second-generation drone for data collection in confined spaces, launched in 2024.
- LiDAR 3D mapping: produces point clouds of the inspected asset.
- ASIO Explore: desktop app to validate data and measure defects and distances on site.
- ASIO Connect: cloud platform for data management and AI analytics.
- Multi-industry use: energy, water, maritime, mining, cement and chemical assets.
3. Potential application
Internal inspection of boilers, tanks and penstocks at Vietnamese power plants and hydropower dams. Inspection of cement kiln and silo interiors during short maintenance windows. Survey of water pipelines and tunnels for municipal utilities.
4. Benefits
Reduces the need to send workers into confined spaces. Captures 3D point-cloud data that supports measurement of defects and distances. Keeps inspection data in a cloud platform for tracking asset condition over time. Distribution in more than 30 countries per the funding announcement.
5. Market trends & opportunities
Asset owners in power, water and heavy industry are shifting from manual entry into tanks, boilers and tunnels toward robotic inspection to cut safety risk and downtime. In Vietnam and Southeast Asia, expanding power, cement, chemical and water infrastructure creates similar demand.
6. Other information
Founded 2019 in Lausanne, Switzerland as an EPFL spin-off. Raised close to USD 10 million in a Series A extension in September 2025, led by a technology-focused family office with Greeneering Invest AG among existing backers. Participated in Venture Kick, ESA BIC Switzerland and Venture Leaders.
