1. Technology overview
ScreenPoint Medical is a Dutch company that develops Transpara, AI software for breast cancer screening used in more than 30 countries with over 13 million mammograms processed. It addresses radiologist shortages in screening programmes and the risk of missed or interval cancers.
Transpara Detection reads 2D and 3D (DBT) mammograms concurrently with the radiologist, sorts each exam into elevated, intermediate or low risk, and places region risk marks on suspicious areas while leaving low-risk exams unmarked for faster review. Transpara Density combines a BI-RADS-like assessment with volumetric breast density, and Temporal Comparison tracks findings across up to three prior exams. Customers are national screening programmes, hospitals and imaging centers.
2. Highlighted features & specifications
- Risk categorization: each exam is classified as elevated, intermediate or low risk.
- Region risk marks: suspicious areas are highlighted for radiologist review.
- 2D and 3D support: works on standard mammograms and digital breast tomosynthesis.
- Transpara Density: BI-RADS-like density category plus volumetric breast density.
- Temporal Comparison: compares findings with up to three prior mammograms over 9 months to 6.5 years.
- Transpara Report: concise exam summary to prioritize high-risk cases and supplemental screening.
3. Potential application
Oncology hospitals and women's hospitals in Vietnam could use Transpara as a second reader in mammography screening clinics. Private check-up chains could triage low-risk mammograms to shorten reporting time in women's health packages. Provincial screening campaigns could use density assessment to decide which women need supplemental ultrasound.
4. Benefits
In the MASAI randomized trial of over 105,000 women in Sweden, AI-supported screening cut interval cancers by 12% and was linked to 29% higher cancer detection and 44% lower reading workload. Low-risk exams, often 70% or more of screening studies, have a 99.97% negative predictive value. Reviewing low-risk exams takes up to 26% less time. Accuracy is reported to hold across ethnicity, age, BMI and breast density.
5. Market trends & opportunities
Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women in Vietnam and across Southeast Asia, and organized mammography screening is expanding while breast radiologists remain few. Randomized trial evidence such as MASAI is pushing health systems to adopt AI as a second reader, and dense breast tissue common in Asian women raises demand for density assessment.
6. Other information
ScreenPoint Medical BV is a Dutch company. Transpara is FDA cleared for 2D and 3D mammography (510(k) K241831 and K232096) and CE marked. It is used in more than 30 countries. In September 2025 Transpara was selected for the US$16 million PRISM randomized controlled trial in the USA, and final MASAI trial results were published in The Lancet in January 2026.
