1. Technology overview
DOBOT was founded in Shenzhen in July 2015 and listed on the Main Board of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange (2432.HK) in December 2024. It makes collaborative robots that let factories and SMEs automate repetitive work without large safety cells, and reports more than 100,000 robots deployed in over 100 countries.
The CRA series covers ten models from 3 kg to 30 kg payload and up to 1,800 mm reach, with an EtherCAT joint servo bus and a standalone PLd Cat.3 safety controller. DobotStudio Pro offers block-based Blockly and Lua programming, process packages for welding, palletizing and CNC tending, plugins for grippers and 2D/3D vision, and a virtual controller for offline programming. Optional SafeSkin and the VX500 smart camera add pre-collision sensing and vision. Users span 3C electronics, automotive, new energy, semiconductors, metal processing and logistics.
2. Highlighted features & specifications
- Ten CRA models: payloads from 3 to 30 kg and reach up to 1,800 mm.
- Safety controller: standalone PLd Cat.3 controller with more than 20 safety functions.
- SafeSkin: optional non-contact sensing that slows the robot before a collision.
- DobotStudio Pro: Blockly and Lua programming with a virtual controller for offline work.
- Process packages: ready parameters for welding, palletizing and CNC machine tending.
- Industrial connectivity: Modbus TCP/RTU, EtherNet/IP and PROFINET links to PLCs and HMIs.
3. Potential application
A metal fabrication workshop in Vietnam can deploy a CRA cobot with the welding package for small-batch welding. An FMCG or packaging plant can use a CR20A or CR30A for end-of-line palletizing. An electronics contract manufacturer can automate CNC tending and inspection with the VX500 camera.
4. Benefits
Joint speeds up to 223°/s and the company's claimed 25% cycle-time improvement raise throughput in material handling. More than 20 safety functions and SafeSkin pre-collision sensing within 15 cm let robots work beside people. Process packages and the VX500 camera, which the company says can be set up in about 30 minutes, cut integration effort.
5. Market trends & opportunities
Rising labour costs and shortages of skilled welders and operators are pushing small and mid-sized factories to adopt affordable cobots. Chinese cobot makers are expanding fast into Southeast Asia, with regional subsidiaries in Thailand and Malaysia serving electronics and metalworking investment in the region.
6. Other information
Founded in Shenzhen on 30 July 2015; listed on HKEX (2432.HK) in December 2024. Offices in Bangkok, Subang (Malaysia, 2025), Tokyo, Germany and Dallas. Named a national Little Giant enterprise; joined NVIDIA's Physical AI ecosystem partner programme in 2025 and launched the ATOM humanoid robot.
