1. Technology overview
Hydrexia Holding Limited was founded in 2016 and describes itself as an integrated hydrogen technology solution provider in China with global reach, with offices in Shanghai, Singapore, Sydney and Phoenix and factories including Kuching in Malaysia. It covers hydrogen production, purification, storage, transport and refuelling for industry and mobility.
Its MHX product stores hydrogen in magnesium- or manganese-based metal hydride inside a standard 20-foot ISO container, holding 1,000 kg of hydrogen in the high-temperature version or 250 kg in the low-temperature version below 30 bar, so it can be shipped by truck, ship or rail like ordinary cargo. Hydrexia also supplies SMR and PSA hydrogen production skids, PSA, TSA and palladium membrane purification, and hydrogen refuelling stations from 200 to 6,000 kg per day, including mobile and relocatable units.
2. Highlighted features & specifications
- MHX container: metal hydride storage in a 20-foot ISO frame holding up to 1,000 kg of hydrogen.
- Two variants: magnesium high-temperature and manganese low-temperature versions.
- Low-pressure storage: hydrogen held below 30 bar without compression.
- Refuelling stations: 200 to 6,000 kg per day with 350 and 700 bar dispensing.
- Purification: PSA, TSA, palladium membrane and MDEA platforms.
- Production skids: SMR and PSA units of 200 to 1,000 kg per day from gas, ammonia or methanol.
3. Potential application
Industrial gas distributors in Vietnam could import hydrogen from Sarawak in MHX containers for factories and laboratories. Logistics fleets testing fuel cell trucks could use mobile refuelling stations at depots. Hospitals or telecom sites could use low-temperature storage for fuel cell backup power.
4. Benefits
Low-pressure, non-pyrophoric metal hydride storage is described as inherently safer than compressed or liquid hydrogen, and containers move through existing cranes, terminals and vessels without modification. Buyers can source production, purification, storage and refuelling from one supplier with more than 275 installations worldwide. Storage units have a stated operating life of over 30 years.
5. Market trends & opportunities
Early hydrogen markets in Southeast Asia need safe ways to move small and medium volumes between producers and users before pipelines exist. Sarawak is producing hydrogen for regional export, and Vietnam's 2024 hydrogen strategy aims to build production, transport and storage capacity, which favours containerised storage and mobile refuelling.
6. Other information
Founded in 2016; investors include CICC, SBCVC, Air Liquide and SoftBank across Series B to D rounds. In 2026 it won a Toyota Australia order for relocatable refuelling stations and its first US order for hospital backup storage. In April 2026 its Malaysian subsidiary signed its first Vietnam contract with KPT Chemical Group, using hydrogen from the Darul Hana plant in Kuching run with SEDC Energy.
