1. Technology overview
BeDimensional is a Genoa-based deeptech company launched in 2016 as a spin-off of the Graphene Labs of the Italian Institute of Technology. It produces few-layer graphene and few-layer hexagonal boron nitride at industrial scale, with a new plant in Genoa that targets growth from 3 to over 30 tonnes per year by 2028.
The heating paint is a graphene-based coating that, once applied to a surface and connected to copper electrodes, generates heat through the Joule effect and emits long-wave infrared radiation. It can be applied like regular paint on drywall, PVC and sandwich panels, and was tested with the University of Genoa spin-off BuildTech. The company targets paint makers, building-material suppliers and HVAC providers.
2. Highlighted features & specifications
- Joule-effect heating: the graphene coating produces heat when connected to simple copper electrodes.
- Infrared radiation: long-wave infrared warms people and objects directly rather than the air.
- Paint-like application: applied to drywall, PVC and polyurethane sandwich panels.
- Companion coatings: electrically insulating hBN paints and heat-dissipating coatings from the same materials platform.
- Industrial pilot: first industrial implementation on fibre-cement panels with partners Estalia Coatings and SIL.
3. Potential application
Heating modules for prefabricated panels made by Vietnamese building-material manufacturers. Anti-condensation and anti-mold surfaces in cold storage rooms and basements. Thermal management coatings for electronics and battery enclosures using the hBN and graphene range.
4. Benefits
Company-reported energy savings of up to 40% on average versus traditional electric radiators. Radiant heat with no mechanical parts and no maintenance. No visible radiators, with less condensation and mold risk in bathrooms and basements. Low-voltage operation and even heat distribution over the painted surface.
5. Market trends & opportunities
Electrification of building heating and demand for low-maintenance radiant systems are driving interest in coating-based heaters. In Vietnam and Southeast Asia, prefabricated and lightweight buildings, cold northern regions and heated industrial spaces are possible niches, though the offer is mainly European so far.
