1. Technology overview
Sensorlink AS was founded in 1996 in Trondheim, Norway, and supplies non-intrusive corrosion and erosion monitoring for pipelines and critical assets in the oil and gas industry. It was acquired by the Axess group in 2010.
SWARM uses external ultrasonic sensors that measure wall thickness without stopping production or removing coatings. Deployment ranges from a simple inspection point and an autonomous battery-powered data logger to a wired DCS or SCADA system or a fully wireless plant-wide network. A sister product, UltraMonit, covers subsea use.
2. Highlighted features & specifications
- Ultrasonic wall-thickness sensing: accurate, repeatable and independent of flow, vibration or process variability.
- Flexible data collection: inspection point, autonomous logger, wired DCS or SCADA, or wireless network.
- Wireless integration: communicates over Yokogawa ISA100 wireless in the Petronas ZLNG delivery.
- High-temperature use: separate low and high temperature SWARM sensors.
- Data integration: unified data model feeding historians, SCADA and HMI.
- Reusable sensors: relocate sensors without removing coatings or stopping production.
3. Potential application
Corrosion monitoring on pipelines and process units at Vietnamese refineries and gas processing plants. Erosion monitoring at offshore platform piping. Corrosion tracking for LNG terminal facilities.
4. Benefits
Cuts manual inspection exposure for staff in hazardous locations. Improves maintenance planning with consistent corrosion data across assets. Sensors are installed without shutdowns and can be relocated and reused. The page lists low- and high-temperature sensor variants for different process conditions.
5. Market trends & opportunities
Asset integrity programs in oil and gas are shifting from periodic inspection to continuous, non-intrusive monitoring. Operators in Southeast Asia, including Petronas projects in Sabah, are adopting wireless corrosion data connected to existing control systems.
6. Other information
Founded 1996 in Trondheim, Norway; acquired by the Axess group in 2010. Delivered SWARM systems through Yokogawa Malaysia for PETRONAS ZLNG (Sabah), with commissioning planned for the first half of 2026.
