1. Technology overview
Aerospike, Inc., headquartered at El Camino Real in Mountain View, California, develops a real-time distributed database for mission-critical workloads that need millions of transactions per second at millisecond latency, such as fraud detection, ad bidding, customer profiles, recommendations and AI feature stores. The company says more than half of its revenue comes from customers running AI workloads in production.
Aerospike Database 8 is a multi-model NoSQL engine built on a patented Hybrid Memory Architecture that keeps indexes in memory and data on SSD, delivering in-memory speed at lower cost. It supports strictly serializable ACID transactions, cross-datacenter replication, streaming and CDC connectors, and Aerospike Graph for relationship data. It runs as Aerospike Cloud, as a managed service in the customer's cloud or self-managed on Kubernetes, VMs or bare metal. Customers include PayPal, Barclays, DBS Bank, Grab, Airtel, Flipkart, Adobe and Wayfair.
2. Highlighted features & specifications
- Hybrid Memory Architecture: Indexes in memory and data on SSD for in-memory speed at lower cost.
- ACID transactions: Strict serializability with bounded tail latency at scale.
- Cross-datacenter replication: XDR keeps globally distributed replicas in sync.
- Aerospike Graph: Real-time graph queries for relationship-heavy data such as fraud rings.
- Server-side expressions: Text expression language, automatic index selection and 37 string functions in 8.2.
- Ecosystem connectors: Kafka, Pulsar, JMS, Spark, Trino, LangGraph memory and Voyager for AI agents.
3. Potential application
A Vietnamese bank can run real-time fraud scoring on card and QR payments using customer profiles stored in Aerospike. An e-commerce platform can handle flash-sale traffic for carts, inventory and recommendations without a separate cache. A telecom operator or ad network can serve subscriber profiles for real-time offers and bidding at millisecond latency.
4. Benefits
High-traffic platforms can serve predictable sub-millisecond reads on far fewer servers: Criteo consolidated 3,200 servers to 800 and Wayfair runs 1 million transactions per second on seven nodes, according to the site. Vendor benchmarks claim up to 9.5x lower cost per transaction than Redis and up to 5.4x better cost efficiency than MongoDB. Strict ACID transactions let banks and payment firms use one database for both speed and consistency.
5. Market trends & opportunities
Digital banking, super-apps, ad tech and AI agents all depend on profile and feature lookups that must complete within milliseconds at peak traffic. Rising cloud and memory costs push companies to replace cache-plus-database stacks with denser storage engines. Regional players such as Grab and DBS Bank already run such workloads, and Vietnamese banks and e-commerce platforms face similar peak-season demands.
6. Other information
