AIxtal PIC Process Informatics Platform and MetaFactory

AIxtal is a Nagoya University startup founded on 8 November 2019 and based at the university's TOIC facility in Nagoya. It applies process informatics to development and mass-production processes, helping manufacturers raise quality, yield and productivity and find root causes of hard-to-explain variation. As of April 2026 it reported 63 client companies and 140 projects, mainly in semiconductors.

Its approach combines physical simulation, machine learning and data science with process knowledge. The PIC (Process Informatics Campus) SaaS maps causal relationships in a process, designs experiments, stores results in structured formats and links analysis to the process structure. MetaFactory extends this into a digital twin that reproduces entire manufacturing lines rather than single steps. The company also offers consulting and process informatics training.

A Japanese-invested parts maker could transfer process know-how from Japan to its Vietnamese plant. A die casting or injection molding factory could optimize process conditions with fewer trials.

Root causes of quality variation are identified faster by linking data to process structure. AIxtal reports a 70% improvement in CMOS image sensor noise characteristics with Sony Semiconductor Manufacturing and a cut to one-tenth of evaluation time for automotive ceramics at NGK. Teams without in-house data scientists can use the platform with expert support.

Semiconductor, ceramics and materials makers are applying process informatics to speed yield ramp-up as new fabs and back-end plants open across Asia. Vietnam's growing semiconductor packaging and electronics component sector faces similar pressure to stabilize quality quickly with limited data science talent.
