1. Technology overview
Bigeye is a data observability company founded in 2019 by Kyle Kirwan and Egor Gryaznov, who met while building data pipelines for Uber’s internal A/B testing tool and saw firsthand that manual testing does not scale to catch data quality problems. The company is remote-first across the United States and has raised a total of $66 million.
The platform automatically profiles tables and pipelines, tracks data lineage and flags anomalies before they reach dashboards or AI models, while also classifying sensitive fields such as PII, PHI and PCI for governance purposes. An add-on called AI Guardian enforces access policies for AI systems, and a cost-anomaly module flags unexpected spend on cloud data warehouses. Customers include Centene, Canva, Cisco, Zoom, USAA and Blue Cross Blue Shield.
2. Highlighted features & specifications
1. Automated data profiling: Continuously profiles tables and pipelines to set quality baselines without manual rule-writing.
2. Anomaly detection: Flags data quality issues and volume or freshness anomalies before they reach downstream users.
3. Data lineage mapping: Traces how data moves and transforms across pipelines to speed up root-cause analysis.
4. Sensitive data classification: Automatically tags PII, PHI and PCI fields across connected data sources.
5. AI Guardian: Enforces access policies specifically for AI systems consuming enterprise data.
6. Cost anomaly detection: Flags unexpected spend spikes on connected cloud data warehouses.
