1. Technology overview
BIO-key International is a Nasdaq-listed (BKYI) identity and access management vendor with more than 20 years of history and a biometric core. It serves enterprises, governments, banks and education institutions, and recent customers include the Central Bank of Jordan and Portugal's National Security Agency. In November 2025 it partnered with SAVIS Group to bring its identity and biometric authentication solutions to Vietnam.
The PortalGuard platform combines single sign-on, acting as identity provider or service provider over SAML, OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect and CAS, with more than 20 MFA methods, adaptive authentication, self-service password reset and Windows desktop login. Identity-Bound Biometrics using fingerprint, palm, voice or face let shared-workstation and frontline staff authenticate without phones or tokens, while Passkey:YOU provides phishing-resistant FIDO2 passkeys secured by biometrics. RADIUS support extends MFA to VPNs and network devices, and BIO-key also sells USB fingerprint scanners.
2. Highlighted features & specifications
- Single sign-on: Acts as IdP or SP for thousands of apps via SAML, OAuth 2.0, OIDC and CAS.
- Multi-factor authentication: Offers more than 20 MFA methods with adaptive policies.
- Identity-Bound Biometrics: Authenticates users by fingerprint, palm, voice or face.
- Passkey:YOU: Provides FIDO-certified, biometric-secured enterprise passkeys.
- Desktop and RADIUS MFA: Protects Windows logins, VPNs, thin clients and network devices.
- Self-service password reset: Lets users securely reset passwords without help desk calls.
3. Potential application
A Vietnamese bank can require fingerprint login for tellers on shared branch workstations to stop credential sharing. A government agency can add phishing-resistant passkeys and MFA to VPN access. A university can provide single sign-on and self-service password reset for students and staff.
4. Benefits
Biometrics bound to the verified identity stop account sharing and credential handover that phones or tokens cannot prevent. Frontline and shared-workstation staff can log in passwordless without carrying devices. More than 20 MFA methods let organizations match assurance to each user group. It can run alongside existing IAM such as Okta, Ping or Microsoft Entra ID instead of replacing it.
5. Market trends & opportunities
Phishing-resistant and passwordless authentication is becoming a regulatory expectation for banks and governments, and biometrics are widely accepted in Asia. Vietnam's banking sector already relies on biometric verification for online transactions, and the SAVIS partnership positions PortalGuard for Vietnamese banks, government agencies and universities modernizing workforce authentication.
