1. Technology overview
Brightpick is a warehouse robotics company founded in 2021 as a spin-off of the 3D vision firm Photoneo, with its base near Cincinnati, Ohio and more than 250 employees. It targets e-commerce, grocery, pharmacy and 3PL fulfilment, where manual picking is slow and labour is hard to find, and aims at 24/7 lights-out operation.
Autopicker is a mobile robot with a picking arm, 3D vision, LiDAR and tactile sensors that picks items from standard shelving and totes into order bins, with no safety fencing or floor markers. Version 2.0, launched in 2025, adds picking-in-motion, a smaller chassis and a 12-hour battery, and works with the Giraffe robot for storage up to 6 m. Gridpicker offers a dense grid system, and Brightpick Intuition orchestrates the fleet. Customers include Rohlik Group, Dr. Max and The Feed.
2. Highlighted features & specifications
- Robotic order picking: picks individual items from totes on standard shelving into order bins.
- Picking-in-motion: picks while travelling, cutting about 15–20 seconds from each pick cycle.
- Multi-workflow robot: also handles goods-to-person picking, order buffering, sortation and replenishment.
- Giraffe integration: stores and retrieves totes at heights up to 6 m.
- Gridpicker: dense grid storage for high-throughput sites.
- Brightpick Intuition: AI warehouse execution software that orchestrates the robot fleet.
3. Potential application
An online grocery operator in Ho Chi Minh City can automate night-time picking and order buffering for early delivery slots. A pharmacy chain can use robots to prepare store replenishment orders from a central warehouse. A 3PL can add robotic picking to an existing shelved warehouse without rebuilding it.
4. Benefits
Autopicker 2.0 averages about 70–80 picks per hour per robot, which the company compares with a typical warehouse associate, and is 50% faster than the first generation. Rental starts at USD 1,900 per robot per month, so buyers can avoid large capital spending. Robots reuse standard shelving and totes, and the vendor targets 99.95% uptime with 24/7 remote support.
5. Market trends & opportunities
Online grocery, pharmacy and fashion retailers need fast, accurate each-picking while warehouse labour becomes scarcer and more expensive. Mobile manipulators that combine navigation and robotic picking, sold as a service, are emerging as an option for sites that cannot justify fixed automation, a gap also visible in fast-growing Southeast Asian e-commerce.
6. Other information
Founded in 2021 as a spin-off of Photoneo, which invested over USD 35 million. Raised USD 12 million in November 2024 from EBRD Venture Capital and angel investors including the founders of Avast and ESET, bringing total funding to USD 47 million. About 300 robots were deployed across the US and Europe at that time.
